@swampgas no clue from me, except they're called Los Tigres del Norte (The Tigers From The North). Also there's this more recent wave of doing an equivalent of outlaw music but they're called "narcocorrdidos". Basically corridos but aggrandizing drugs/narco culture. Which is not great imo.

That's as far as I know, but hashtags may be able to summon more knowledgeable mexas.

After the great fall from the heights of the 1950s when they were importing 200,000 accordions a year for sale in the US

By 1976 it was 13,000 😞 It was a hard time

But in Dec 1987 there was a whole issue of #Keyboard Magazine dedicated to accordions with #WeirdAl on the cover

That said, over here the number one selling instruments are probably three-row button accordions for the norteño market

Which brings up the whole other issue of how most 🪗 are really boring

The norteño market knows how to sell new accordions at different prices and quality with lots of flash

I would hope a handmade Melodeon would be in a different quality level entirely

But I might like a range of colors 🌈

That was the accordion’s first “big” revival in the 1980s

The Americana revival went from Nirvana on MTV with Krist Novoselić playing 🪗 in ‘94, and peaked with the Decemberists at #1 for a nanosecond in 2011

I personally think we’re due for a Tricentennial Polka revival in the 2030s led by a crossover norteño hit

We will document this as the #Accordion media at @accordionnoir radio out of Vancouver
