  1. The desert remembers footprints long after empires fade, mi vida 🌵🔥

    We were never temporary.
We are woven into the story of the Americas itself. 🇲🇽

  3. Chicano artist Lalo Alcaraz is clever and talented. He’s worked on some big projects and is published in big papers. But I think his personal art is the best.

He has a shop. Maybe you’ll want to gift something to someone. Maybe even yourself. 😉

  8. Overheard in Texas:

At a bus stop: "Hispanic? That's amazing, you don't look at all Hispanic!"

In a library: "So I told them, we're not like that, we're not white, we're Mexican."

I've lived in Texas for years, but I still find ethnicity here hard to understand.

    CHICANO MOVEMENT 1960’s

[Ruben] Salazar : “I think we are in a revolution. I think the United States is traditionally a revolutionary country…We are going to overthrow some of our institutions, but in the way that Americans have always done it: through the ballot, through public consensus. That’s a revolution. That is a real revolution.”

  10. The Arhoolie Foundation got an email saying a $200,000 matching grant was cut because their work saving old recordings “no longer serves the interest of the United States”

I know they want to end Medicaid and Social Security to give tax transfers to #billionaires

But it’s ironic that politicians creating the latest economic crash stop funding to preserve records made during the Great Depression

  11. Doing interesting work with a #MexicanAmerican (formerly just #Mexican) coauthor about #GenderRoles and right-wing #voting behavior across multiple ethnic/racial groups. The colleague is a political scientist so his view of things like "masculinity" is different from mine. It's a lot of fun to discuss. I just made this graphic for him and the other authors to stimulate discussion about what we want to measure. The lower-right yellow explosion indicates the discrepancy currently of most interest to me as a measure of masculinity conflict/threat/stress, though I'd truly prefer (and have tried once to construct) a measure that somehow combines all three discrepancies.

Submissions to #SPSSI are due today for the conference in #portland #oregon in June.

(Note: gender roles and #masculinity are related to my areas of #research but not central; if you a have notes or suggestions, I'm open to them)

Take the Power Back - #RATM

After #ChollaHighMagnetSchool teachers used this song in a #MexicanAmerican history class, Superintendent John Huppenthal issued a “notice of noncompliance” to the #Tucson Unified School District. So in January 2015, over 20 years after the song was released, #RageAgainstTheMachine’s #lyrics–along with #KRSOne’s #HipHop teachings– were deemed to be against #Arizona state law, which states that schools cannot “advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”

  23. #introduction time, so a little about me.

My name is #Carlos and I live in #Boston, but originally from #California. I miss home for sure, but #NewEngland seasons are amazing.

    I'm a #mentalhealth #advocate, in large part because I have experienced firsthand the benefits of #therapy, and have found strength in my vulnerability. I'm a #husband, #father, #girldad, #entrepreneur and #mexicanamerican #latinx.

I’ve worked in #digitalhealth #healthcare #lifesciences for 20+ years and am passionate about how the heck things are #priced, #commercialized and lead to #socialimpact.

I absolutely love to #meditate, #bike around town, and read paper #books. There’s something about flipping through pages that makes it easier to breathe, and settle into a story.

I included my 'professional" photo that I use on #LinkedIn :) and my LI profile is here:
linkedin.com/in/carlosrodarte. I am sorta still on #twitter but less so, saving my good posts for #mastodon.
