  2. A +1 for the brand new 2025 gravel bike buyer's guide: Ribble Cycles has launched the Allgrit range and its range-topper is quite impressive, with MAHLE's X20 able to be leaned upon when required. It was on fast descents that this bike came alive, with great control on multi-surface terrain:

  6. On Saturday I cycled from Canberra to Bendora Dam and back. What an adventure!

Bendora Dam is between Corin and the Cotter dams and is directly west of Tuggeranong. Deep in the Namadgi National Park, it's fairly remote. We rode for 5 hours before coming across anyone else. The roads are dirt but well maintained - until we got lost.

Getting lost meant that we ended up at the dam itself which was a treat, though we didn't get to see the reservoir. But to try to hook up with the original route we had to push our bikes for an hour up the side of a peak to Bendora Hut! With an elevation of 1300m it's above the snowline and, though there was little snow, it was cold up there.

From Bendora Hut we had a fast, fun descent to Picadilly Circus and then a whole lot more back to Canberra.

It was about 6 hours of riding and a 9 hour trip all up. There were plenty of stops - an echidna, an arboretum, ice sheets, river crossing, a lyrebird and of course roos and wallabies.

Canberra's a great place to live.

Investigating the dam also led me to this - an interactive map of the city's water supply. Very cool.

  7. Today's results are 103km, in just under 6 hours, or nearly 8 and a half when taking lunch amd other brakes into consideration. And 2469m of ascending. Which is a new record for me. And the weather has been awesome sun and clouds and around 20°C
The last day tomorrow will be an early start to try to avoid the rain that's forecasted. It's another 75km, just 725m av ascending and just over 1500m of descending, so it might go really fast tomorrow.

  8. It seems like gravel riding has definitely become more popular than mountain biking, or at least gets more buzz and chatter. Is that the case?

  13. I rode up a mountain on the weekend!

Situated in the Brindabella National Park, on the edge of the ACT/NSW border, is Mount Coree. At 1421 metres, it's not the highest peak around but is one of the few peaks with a 'road' to the top.

We started at Uriarra Village and climbed up Two Sticks Road from the northern end, enjoying a consistent but enjoyable climb through farm and bush land.

The dirt road was built to maintain the powerlines and is well maintained as it criss-crosses under the giant pylons.

As we climbed higher, the curious kangaroos were replaced with nervous wallabies and the bushland got a little more rainforest.

We reached the campground after about 20 km and 700m of climbing and headed up the Coree Summit Road. This is where things got really challenging, the road is very rough - suitable only for 4WDs and climbs nearly 300m in only 3km. Some of the pitches were 16-20% on rough, rutted gravel and rock.

It was all worth it for the spectacular views from the summit!

(The ride down was also fun).

Interestingly, Mount Coree is where the ACT / NSW border turns to track the Cotter River south.

  14. Mixed #road and #gravel #ride. As always I came across other cyclists who couldn't accept I was riding at same speed and "raced" me while I was minding my own business. It is funny how men react. The other fun fact is most riders have such a bad position they are super inefficient from an aero point of view even on brand new aero bikes with deep carbon wheels. Since I come back from illness I was very much not into riding with intensity yet kept up with these riders without even trying on my vintage steel bike, box rims, unshaved legs and short socks just because I had a more aero position and narrow handlebars.

  15. I love that this is in my backyard now. Moving away from the "big" city has been one of the best quality-of-life changes I've ever made. An evening gravel ride on the Arizona Strip.

  16. Out for a rip on the new 47mm tires set up tubeless. Have some troubleshooting to do with some sealant leaking at the rim seam, otherwise stoked!

  17. I know that this is a long shot, that being said my bike was stolen while I was at work today :sob: so if anybody see's a used blue bike from "Fara cyceling"(Like the one on the picture) for sale then please let me know. Since I'm from Europe I assume that's where it might be tried to be sold.
