A photograph I took of renowned glassmaker Brian Jones MBE in his studio at the National Glass Centre on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland, NE England.
Brian co-founded 'Wearside Glass Sculptures' at the NGC after starting his glass-making career training at the Pyrex factory (later Corning Glass Works) in Sunderland.
Brian initially specialized in lampworking and creating complex glass laboratory apparatus.
After establishing the studio in 1996 alongside his colleague Norman Veitch, they moved into the National Glass Centre when it opened in 1998 and the studio has been a fixture ever since.
I understand that Brian, who was awarded his MBE for services to glassblowing and glass art, plans to retire after the closure of the National Glass Centre this week.#sunderland #savethenationalglasscentre #glass #culture #glassmaking #photography

Day off today to enjoy my birthday/Christmas present from the fella, a glassmaking day with Langham Glass in Fakenham!
So far I've made two paperweights like the one in the photo, a bird and a mushroom!
This afternoon I'm making a bowl and a vase.
It's absolutely fascinating and I have so much respect for these amazing craftspeople. It's very hard!

Apparently chemical and glass-making factories will be the first to face cuts in supply, followed by #stadiums, #shoppingCentres and other non-essential venues.
