When I had a corporate job, if I had any energy left after work, I would do leatherwork to wind down. Today I did leatherwork all day and ended with starting a felting project. After I got going with it, I remembered that feeling of unwinding by doing something I love which is kind of weird because I love leatherwork, too. #work #craft #leather #felting

Little yellow eyed penguin has feet now I have non-broken needles.
The needles from Filzrausch are worlds better and so much finer than the flimsy one that came in the beginner’s Ashford kit. And a wooden holder ensures a relaxed grip. Much more enjoyable. Less self-mutilatory too.

Yellow eyed penguin … or something like it?
The needle in this kit was particularly poor and snapped before I got the feet done.Definitely doesn’t come close to my friend’s two cuties, but a reasonable first attempt at a new craft.

For those who don't know what felting is, it is sculpting with wool. Any wool will do: sheep, alpaca, goat, even hair from your dog, if properly prepared. The wool is compacted upon itself using small, sharp barbed needles and eventually solidifies into the shape of your choosing. It can be used to make lifelike animals or whimsical creatures and scenes that don't require turning neighborhoods into deserts or blowing up the power grid. #felting #fiber #art

I’m published in QST!
Notably not for my operating prowess or world class antenna farm, but because of the brilliance of my family and their loving support.

I don’t know anything about it but it looks really good for a first attempt!

I'm looking into learning felting, I've done some #knitting that I felted (both in washing machine and in dryer, both work fine).
I would like to learn how to felt some specific spots a but more.
Should I use a needle for that? Or water and soap and by hand rubbing? Also, I would like to felt some motifs on top of an already felted product (bag/hat). How to do that?
Suggestions for specific resources welcome!
