  13. For those following the US #economy this is a disturbing chart. #Debt is weighing us down, all of us. individual debt and national debt. This, at a time when the #TrumpAdministration is set on a massive tax cut for the rich and at the same time making life difficult for student loan holders as well as the rest of his that rely on our credit cards. Defaults, especially auto loans, are going up as is overall debt. Looks to me like we’re in trouble. What do you think? #economics #finance #CreditCardDebt #AutoLoans #RepublicansDidThis

  15. Americans have been spending more time at home since 2003, study finds

    cbsnews.com/video/americans-sp

Perhaps it's because they're in #creditcarddebt up to their ears and have no money to 'go out'? Considering credit card debt just made a new record at ELEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS plus. I've noticed in my tourist/college town only Friday nights are busy downtown and it's been that way for some time. At xmas time people DO NOT HAVE 'arms full of gift packages' when shopping... #USSociety

  16. US President Joe Biden says it's OK that food's super expensive because the average working people of this country have money to burn on commodified necessities such as macronutrients.

In reality, US credit card debt has increased to record levels in recent months, and delinquencies -- an early indicator that people are going broke -- are starting to rise.

So, no, Joe, that pandemic money is long gone, and people now are holding on by their fingernails -- and all while layoffs and unemployment are still relatively low. It's a bad situation that's probably about to get much worse.

Biden continued by talking out of both sides of his mouth, saying that "we've got to deal with" the "corporate greed," etc., but we all know where his sympathies lie and which class he serves at the end of the day.

  17. CW: Christianity and economics

A great shock to most who think they know the words of the “Our Father” also known as “The Lord’s Prayer” — take a shufty at this article.

“Conventions of translation and habits of thought are chiefly to blame — we fail to notice that a very great many of Jesus’ teachings concern debtors and creditors, the legal coercion of the former by the latter, the need for debt relief, and the inferred imperative to return to Mosaic law with its recognition of the fundamental indecency of using interest to enslave the needy.”

“The prayer Jesus taught was originally, and remains, a prayer for the poor—a prayer, that is, for the poor alone to pray.”

  18. Listening to the #WeCanDoHardThings podcast (audible.com/pd/B0CVL8K1PB)

Apparently, on average, Americans spend $24BILLION on #ValentineDay every year.

Three out of 10 Americans go into #CreditCardDebt for Valentine's Day, and 43% of those hide that debt from their partner.

And 46% of people receive Valentine's gifts they don't like.

So...if I am mathing right...for about 4 million Americans, celebrating love is connected with deceit? And for half of the people receiving gifts...

  19. Since we're about to enter the holiday season in the US, I feel the need to spread holiday cheer.

My ex-wife told me that one of the reasons she got into credit card debt was because she did not want her kids to know that she was "poor." So she bought her kids gifts for the holidays that she could not really afford.

My childhood was very different. After my parents divorced, my father was not shy about letting my brother and me know what he did not have much money to throw around.

I remember "fondly" a Christmas where the tree at my father's place was a deciduous tree with a couple of ornaments on it. It was a potted tree that he had decorated.

Oftentimes, we got items that had been discounted because the company making them decided to stop making them. (I'm looking at you TI-99/4A!)

My brother and I slept in the same bed when we were at his place.

(I'll note here that my ex-wife got rid of that credit card debt shortly after meeting me. I would not have tolerated it. She's been raised to not be explicit with me. I've been raised without credit card debt.)

I'll note here that my mother did not get into credit card debt, either.

Okay... maybe that wasn't holiday *cheer*, after all. :catthinking:

If you have #CreditCardDebt and some third party is trying to collect from you, you really need to read this: Credit card debt collection and how you can thwart the system by standing up for your rights. “The debt collection industry is… among the most odious hives of scum and villainy as exists in the United States. The business is sordid and virtually immune to reform, despite decades of trying.” #Debt #CreditCard #CreditCards #Collections #DebtCollectors #DebtCancellation #Banks bitsaboutmoney.com/archive/the
