Convertir una historia cerrada que funcionó en una saga es un salto mortal. Lo bueno de Knives Out es que se beneficia del género negro (o gris) al modo clásico: juega con las posibilidades infinitas de cruzar personajes y escenarios como quien idea un puzle (y sin el como) desde dos ejes comunes a las tramas: el propio género y un protagonista conocido, de modo que este universo whodunit se va renovando mientras se asegura dos puntales que le dan cercanía.

La por ahora trilogía de Rian Johnson fue un golpe de frescor en 2019, al debutar. En su primer estiramiento (2022) flojeó al retorcer -o contorsionar- demasiado la trama, aparte de querer desvincularse de la película precedente dentro de un escenario -acristalado- tan radicalmente distinto que olía a marcianada. De entre los muertos corrige los puntos de fuga de Glass Onion y vuelve a mirar a la cara a la primera entrega.

Siguiendo la máxima "pueblo pequeño, infierno grande", Wake Up Dead Man se vale de una comunidad pequeña, con tintes góticos, para desarrollar una historia llena de sentido, disfrutable y con denuncia social.

Que el protagonismo esté más repartido que nunca entre Blanc y el curilla-boxeador (sienta de lujo a la historia que el bueno de Benoit tarde en aparecer y se preste a tener un neófito Watson) regenera la saga. Y, aunque sobran personajes (lo siento por Scott y Spaeny), también amplían posibilidades los secundarios más devotos.

Al metraje le ocurre como a los personajes: pide un recorte. Aunque gracias a eso Blanc llega más político que nunca como la voz de la razón, como hombre de ciencia abierto a empatizar con el prójimo, y Johnson aprovecha para denunciar nuestros usos de las herramientas digitales y la erosión social que provocan, así como pone de manifiesto la fina línea entre ser devoto y compinche, un pene y un cohete espacial.

I got it to see #WakeUpDeadMan in the theater, and I really enjoyed it! Very funny and, as others have said, nice that these movies are just "Benoit Blanc shows up" not about him. This one was heartfelt and... Nice to see a protagonist who's worth rooting for, y'know?

‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ is a fun and fitting continuation of the series. Daniel Craig is as enjoyably hammy as ever, even if it seems like they’re cycling through a new hairpiece with every film. Was getting a bit skeptical towards the end, but it stuck the landing. 7.5/10

🎭🫆🕵️ Just watched Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man. It is an excellent movie. If you have a Netflix sub, it’s worth a watch. The movie adds to the existing slate of Knives Out movies. I am loving Craig as Benoit Blanc, as much as when he played James Bond – maybe more.

Also, the fact that Benoit Blanc isn't in it for the first 30 mins, as well as the whole concept of the "unsolvable mystery" and how Benoit Blanc manages to figure everything out like Sherlock was... well I didn't enjoy it.
