Tonight watching an episode of the "Elementary" version of Sherlock Holmes, to relax amidst some writing tasks.
It's not deep, but the transfer from Victorian England to modern America is quite ingenious, it works. Jonny Lee Miller is fantastic as recovering heroin addict Holmes, and Lucy Liu gives the perfectly matching Watson. A solid production that doesn't take itself too seriously.
I love Jonny Lee Miller in this role: his constant agitation, his fast-breathing voice, and his face permanently that of a toddler who's been denied dinner. Lovely.
Harmless but joyful entertainment!

I also enjoy #Fluxx, #GiveMeTheBrain, #Scrabble, #TheSettlersOfCatan, Pandemic (that hashtag would be confusing), #ExplodingKittens, #Dixit, and more)
#TheHobbit is still my favourite book, but I also like #MissMarple, #Poirot, and #SherlockHolmes. #TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy series is great. So is #Discworld by #TerryPratchett. Enjoyed #EarthSea series.

The most important thing you have to get right in a Sherlock Holmes adaptation is that isn't just an eccentric: he's a prick.
A boastful, egotist ass of the highest degree who is only happy when he's right or otherwise putting everybody else down. He's a real bastard, and that's essential, it is there from the very first story which I'm revisiting on audiobook right now.
