  1. 🚨 Niche animation post 🚨

A few folk have asked how the move to Friction has gone, so I have written some notes about what helped me (basically the elements that I think are confusing if you're used to Flash/Animate).

It's a bit of a brain dump but hopefully has some useful pointers about how to get started. I've only been using it a couple of weeks, so there is loads I don't know, but these points mean I can persevere.

  2. As promised, have some words on moving away from Animate, & why I'm trying out Friction as an alternative in the first instance. Skip this thread if you have no interest in animation software.

First up, big thanks to everyone with suggestions, & I am absolutely not dissing any of the other apps people mentioned. I had very specific requirements & they changed within a few days of the original post asking for help due to Adobe's actions.

The software giant dropped a bombshell for animators this week when it sent out an email announcing with a month's notice that it would discontinue Adobe Animate from 1 March. Existing users were told they would lose the ability to download their content 12 months later. Today, Adobe posted a statement on its website saying: “Animate will continue to be available for both current and new customers, and we will ensure you continue to have access to your content. There is no longer a deadline or date by which Animate will no longer be available. These are changes from what we shared in our original email.
