  1. When the current storm
of which we had been forewarned
    came in exactly as #advertised
    all the feigned surprise
    and hand wringing dramatics
    was such a disingenuous exercise
to those of us in the knowing
    which way
    the fucking wind was blowing

  11. I'm back! It's been a while! I'm still excited about brands! But my faith was tested! I went to a commune which falsely #advertised itself as a #brandAwarenessCamp! There, they tried to teach me that #capitalism is actually evil! Have any of you ever heard such a thing! I almost fell for it! Then I realized: #communism is also a #brand! And then I really realized: I love brands! I broke free from their ideology and have returned!

When 90+% of the #advertisers leave the site wot gets #advertised is not reaching many eyes, unless you are a bot, imo.

This happened on YouTube also when all the Nazi Propaganda kept showing up near major advertising and they promptly pulled their ad spend until YouTube cleaned up their act.

    Same thing will/has/is happened/ing at the #DelistedTWTR / #OligarchBirdSite / #DeadFreeTWTR dumpster fire.

🔮 Prediction : At the current income to burn rate of 💸💸💸💸 outgoing to the ~1k employee / contractor 'hostages' the site will be dead in a few years anyways by the looks of things. 🔮

~50 billion to kill the site's usefulness is a bargain for the people behind wanting to kill the platform anyways.

  17. #Pluralistic: Everything #advertised on #SocialMedia is overpriced junk (08 Apr 2023) – Pluralistic: Daily links from #CoryDoctorow

"Specifically, stuff that's pushed to you via #TargetedAds costs an average of 10 percent more, and it significantly more likely to come from a vendor with a poor rating from the #BetterBusinessBureau. This may seem trivial and obvious, but it's got profound implications for media, commercial surveillance, and the future of the #internet."

  22. "Hiring managers acknowledge as much. In a survey of more than 1,000 hiring managers last summer, 27% reported having #job postings up for more than four months. Among those who said they advertised job #postings that they weren’t actively trying to fill, close to half said they kept the ads up to give the impression the #company was growing, according to #ClarifyCapital, a small-business-loan provider behind the #study. One-third of the managers who said they #advertised jobs they weren’t trying to fill said they kept the listings up to placate #overworked #employees."

You've probably been in the position of sending out your resume far and wide, filling out zillions of applications, and going weeks or even months before even getting an answer. Well, turns out a lot of it's because they're not actually hiring #anyone. It's not just you.
