" #NoisePollution also impedes vocal communication for numerous species of #birds and #frogs, sometimes causing these animals to alter their vocalizations to make themselves heard above the low-frequency rumble of #traffic even though the altered calls might be less effective in attracting mates. A study conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic found that white-crowned sparrows reverted to songs with lower notes when urban-dwelling humans were under lockdown. Evidently, the birds favored these songs when not forced to compete with traffic noise. Furthermore, traffic noise has been shown to retard vocal learning in songbirds, in addition to hindering cognitive performance in other domains."

#TheRestIsHistory is a much better podcast than the viciously centrist #TheRestIsPolitics.
#DominicSandbrook & sidekick #TomHolland don't try to defend Britain. So this 140 min account of #TheTroubles is unusually listenable, for an English show.
But it conveys no sense of the arrogant mendacity of British rule in Ireland. #Sandbrook portrays #UKgov as inattentive, but omits the imperialism & sheer feckin madness. UK govts are not #NormalPeople.

Publisher #Faber has confirmed it will stop supplying #SallyRooney's books in the UK, but says copies already held by retailers will not be removed from sale.
The publisher clarified the position to #RTE after announcing that UK legislation meant it could no longer pass on earnings from sales to the Irish author because of her support for banned group #PalestineAction.

T-shirt Andy does #BillClinton-like displays of empathy, hugely powerful moments of connection with the lived experiences and emotional landscapes of people battered & bruised by harsh economics.
Then, like Clinton, #Burnham gives those people a few snacks while whacking them hard with the big stuff. At least Burnham does not appear to be simultaneously shagging anything female which still breathes.

Less elegantly & less tersely: #NormalPeople could be described as a bleak, lightly marxist, heterosexual coming-of-age novel about an unsteady couple with a huge mismatch of class & of anxiety vs self-confidence, largely played out through bonking scenes.

PS I agree, @BashStKid. Ireland's LNG imports are a disgrace.
But the whole energy show in Ireland has been a disgrace since the #ESB's wonderful hydro schemes were completed in the 1950s, and we later dashed to fossil fuel.
#Moneypoint was a crime, a cynical machine to dump coal emissions on Britain & Europe.
The 21st-century dash to wind energy was disgracefully handed to private capital. And now hugging #data centres are using 27% of Irish leccy 😡

Yes, @ChrisMayLA6. #Starmer & #McSweeney's huge achievement was to largely fulfil their strategic goal of crushing the Labour left. Ruthless rightwing control of candidate selection meant that the hugely-expanded PLP contains only one new leftie. In the membership, the left has either been purged or quit.
So #Burnham's Kinnockite combo of centrism with left rhetoric has no internal opposition from the left. His path for an alliance with the right is open.

@ChrisMayLA6 The political coalition assembled by #AndyBurnham to oust Starmer has been v poorly examined by the MSM. Only #JeremyGilbert's "Culture, Power, Politics" podcast made a decent attempt.
But elements of Burnham's parameters are becoming clear. His fiscal stance seems to include:
1/ big increases in military spending, as John Healey had demanded from Starmer
2/ big benefits cuts, as Starmer tried but failed.8n this respect, #Burnham is a more effective version of Starmer.
