CW: Me angry at The Rest is Politics Leading's interview with Gabriel Zucman
The more I hear him the more I wish Rory would piss off to his silent retreats forever. The guy is positively apoplectic at the start of this interview, not letting Gabriel speak and throwing ridiculous 'what ifs' at him. Privilege threatened mychly?
He's the same with anyone who wants to talk about anything pragmatic about climate change. He's a grade A imbecile from posh stock. -

#AlastairCampbell had gone from cheerleader to critical friend. But yesterday's episode lacked any defence of Starmer.The UK elections slot begins at 25mins. Rory Stewart puts the boot in hard, while Campbell nods along with no hint of defence.
I read that as the face of a wider collapse of Starmer’s allies.

Of course they do. One option is a lying, snivelling, intellectually bankrupt, corporatist, appeaser of actual fascists. The other is a Fabian socialist Parliamentarian. It's not a hard choice.
For all their faults, neither Campbell nor Stewart have sympathy for fascism of any kind.

I would just like to share how grateful I am that advertising-funded podcasts like @RestIsPolitics to have normalised the use of VPNs
Having Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell pitch for NordVPN in earnest and politically aware tones several times every week for the past couple of years, has made it very hard to demonise encrypted network communications.
I applaud this.
Speaking as an actual information security expert, I have always considered VPNs to be something of a snake-pit and I have made a point of not using them, seeing as the only legitimate benefit of them to date has been “watching TV and listening to radio as if you were in another country”
Regrettably, that has now become a very legitimate use case in the United Kingdom.

Just listened to Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart on #TheRestIsPolitics yearning for Live Aid positivity.
The reality is that my Generation X was both positive and cynical about the world. But that key 1980s/90s generation thought they absolutely could change the world for the better. And while it wasn't sustainable, what they did achieve was massive.
The current generation of Millennials understand too much about society and realise they can't make change for good.
So they don't try. And they won't. And that's awful.

I really thought Stuart and Campbell were more principled than that. Or maybe they've drunk the kool-aid, in which case I thought they were a lot more canny than that.
