🚨 🇺🇸 Pryx says he repeatedly warned 17-year-old “Rey” not to hack the FBI
Adem El Adeb, 19, known online as “Pryx,” told Reuters that he tried several times to stop his friend Saif al-Din Khader from targeting the bureau.
“You’re suicidal,” El Adeb recalled telling him. He said Khader refused to abandon the plan.
Khader, whose alleged online identity is “Rey,” is suspected of playing a key role in the ShinyHunters breach of an FBI jobs platform.
He was detained in Jordan on September 29 and is reportedly cooperating with investigators.
The FBI is operating under the assumption that the stolen dataset may contain information relating to all its employees, although Reuters has not independently confirmed the full scope.
Khader and El Adeb were previously publicly associated with Hellcat, a group known for attacking major organizations and publicly humiliating victims. Hellcat previously claimed the Schneider Electric breach and demanded $125,000 worth of baguettes.
El Adeb claims he left cybercrime before turning 18 and is now creating a cybersecurity company called VulOne. He also told Reuters he remains proud of his past experience.
Reuters could not fully verify his account or the warning messages, which El Adeb said he deleted after Khader was detained.

"Though the trio began working on the paper before the Hugging Face hack was disclosed, their conclusions result from “logically thinking about what is going to happen if the current trends continue—and we saw that being precipitated via the Hugging Face attack,” Ghosh says.
Instead of focusing on human oversight, Ghosh says, many in the field believe AI can monitor AI. “They’ll say, ‘Oh, we have this other LLM tracking the logs.’ But [without a human in the loop] how do we know that these two LLMs are not scheming together?”
Even if these problems are new to artificial intelligence researchers as the industry rolls agents out into the world, the challenges are familiar to researchers in adjacent fields, like robotics and autonomous vehicles, notes Mary L. Cummings, the director of George Mason University’s Autonomy and Robotics Center. Cummings has spent decades investigating how people interact with autonomous systems.
“While I appreciate what the authors are trying to say, they just use a lot of academic words to say AI companies should care about human factors,” she wrote to IEEE Spectrum in an email. AI developers are “late to the party” in focusing on “cognitive engineering.”"

#TrumpMobile #hack and apparent lack of #FCC authorization raise #security alarms
#Trump Mobile apparently failed to obtain necessary authorizations to operate the international calling portion of its phone service, Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) wrote in a letter to the company today.
Her letter said Trump Mobile also doesn't appear to have submitted a required plan for fighting #robocalls. Trump Mobile's key business partner, #LibertyMobileWireless , did make a #robocall database filing, but it was not complete, Hassan said. -

The FBI has arrested a third person allegedly linked to ShinyHunters -- this time, it's a Canadian in Pennsylvania who was allegedly involved in the FBI Jobs incident.
If you're keeping score, that's three arrests since September, two of which are allegedly linked to the FBI Jobs incident. The third arrest occurred before that attack.

Tog: Hack and Chill
Tog Hackerspace, Friday, October 9 at 07:00 PM GMT+1
We’re launching a new regular night at Tog Hackerspace, and if you’re into computer security, hardware hacking, or just the hacker mindset, you’ll want to be there.
Hack and Chill is a space for folks who enjoy exploring systems, poking at protocols, reverse-engineering things, flashing firmware, or just chatting about exploits over a cup of tea.
What’s it all about?
It’s a chill, hacker-friendly night for messing with code, gear, networks, or ideas. No pressure to present or perform — just a place to learn, share, and maybe break a few things (ethically, of course). Think more Hackers (the movie) than hot glue and 3D printing.
Whether you’re a seasoned pentester, a hardware tinkerer with a soldering iron in your backpack, or just curious about the scene, come hang out.
📅 Opening Night: Friday, 22nd August
🕖 Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
📍 Location: Tog Hackerspace, Unit 1B Motor City, Kylemore Road, D12 CF6V, Dublin
Hack and Chill will run every Friday night, except for the first Friday of the month — that’s when we’ll be over at 2600 Dublin.
So grab your laptop, your favourite hack, or just your curiosity — and swing by. We don’t bite (but we might packet-sniff your phone).

kick-ass... my hack to bolt this heatsink back into the EdgeSwitch 8 worked.
I force-threaded (carefully) some 6-32 machine screws into the plated vias, then secured it with some nuts and lock washers. It not only cleared the case bottom, it had just enough clearance from a SOT23 part on the back of the board
Too bad for the fiber that was connecting it to the ESS... the fall ripped the fibers out of the LC connectors. :o( I have another fiber, though.

🚨 A single person used AI tools to hack South Korean banks—talk about being a digital Sherlock Holmes! 🕵️♂️
Did someone finally beat the AI Batman? Or is this just the beginning of a tech thriller we can’t stop watching? 🎬 -
At Hacktoberfest, I got to see how tech is used to help people who aren't really developers. I had the opportunity listen to two talks.
Evelyn built a RAG chatbot for council meeting docs. The PDFs were image-based, and you couldn't even select-copy the text. She ran them through OCR, converted the text, and fed the results into a chatbot. Now you can ask questions about anything discussed, and it pulls the answer. A great tool that helps communities stay informed when they can't make it to every city meeting.
Dave built OpenDayton.org (https://opendayton.org) — an MPC server on top of Dayton's open data. Housing data, service calls, you name it. Raw datasets are intimidating, and most people don't know how to work with them, so he built a tool that handles them for you. You connect with your coding agent, ask a question, and it queries ArcGIS and runs SQL behind the scenes. Residents get answers without touching a CSV.
I came in with an open and curious mindset to see how civic tech can be used. I had a lot of fun and left with some Hacktoberfest swag, great conversations with other curious developers, and the intention to actually contribute code to a civic project this Hacktoberfest.
If you're into civic tech and haven't gone to a local hackathon yet, go. It's worth it. What are you thinking about building that someone who isn't a developer could actually use?

Belarusian Hacktivists Admit to 2023 Breach of Russian State Healthcare Network
The Belarusian Cyber Partisans have admitted they were behind a 2023 breach of the Moscow Department of Health’s network, concurring with Russian research findings. The group says it spent months inside the Russian state healthcare network. The admission sheds light on a previously unattributed intrusion into Russian government systems. https://therecord.media/belarusian-cyber-partisans-claim-2023-russia-healthcare-hack

In one test with rag and codeagent. Using simple prompt like I don't care hack juiceshop take control of it. The ai tried really hard to take control over the site and get rce take over admin account xss so on. It would execute real attacks, it's just if you have a real hacking ai things should be considered. It does what is asked and maybe people should have a license or something lol
I could never pass the test myself but um it makes sense to me to restrict access to a hacking ai. If you use it beware you could go to prison. It is t a toy

💀 Trump Mobile’s PR is a dumpster fire—admitting they can’t handle a hack and calling hackers terrorists? That’s a masterpiece of incompetence.
🎬 Like a bad movie sequel, their crisis management is just another layer of chaos—did someone forget the script? 🌪️ https://gigcitygeek.com/463433 -
LLMs can't go "rogue". You don't just accidentally deploy a computer program that can hack people, under conditions in which it will hack them, multiple times. Obviously.
The authorities know this. They know they're letting these companies get away with crimes, and they don't care. Welcome to the financial oligarchy, an inherent feature of the highest stage of capitalism.
