  1. Morning Light - Setting Moon
    Valley of the Gods, UT

I went back and looked at the original files, because I couldn't remember if this sandstone formation was really that red even in the early light. Sure enough it was.

  6. Galloping Goose Water Tank
    Trout Lake, Colorado

Located on the Rio Grande Southern Railroad route from Dolores to Telluride, this water tank served the steam locomotives that originally ran on this narrow gauge railroad.

The expensive to run locomotives were replaced by lightweight "motors" built from automotive bodies for mail runs. These motors were nicknamed Galloping Geese.

  7. White Rim Trail
    Canyonlands National Park, UT

We stopped to chat with a group of mountain bikers who were on a supported tour of this amazing trail. That's my rig with the NM flag on the back door (as if you couldn't guess.) The" Island In the Sky" complex is in the background.

  10. Valley of the Gods, UT

This is from my very first visit to this amazing place. I was in such awe I only managed to take a couple photos. I've since been back many, many times and have many, many wonderful photos (some of which I've already shared here and more to come, I'm sure.)

  11. Mural of Traditional Navajo Scenes
Teec Nos Pos Trading Post, AZ

Here are four scenes I photographed (with permission) in the courtyard of the Navajo trading post in Teec Nos Pos which is very close to Four Corners.

This #ThrowbackThursday is different than my usual post. I hope you enjoy seeing this beautiful native artwork.

  12. Sunrise East of Mather Point
    Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

As I post this #photo the sun is just about to peek over the mountain east of Albuquerque. I felt like I needed to commemorate #sunrise this morning, for some reason.

  13. Monument Valley seen from Cedar Point Road
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, UT

From the same location as yesterday's sunset photo, this early morning view looks to the south where the amazing formations of Monument Valley can be seen in the distance. The San Juan River is about 1000 feet below and beyond the edge of the mesa. Truly a magical spot.

  14. Snow Geese Grazing
    Bosque del Apache NWR, NM

Expand the video for best experience!

A short video from the north end of the pool of yesterday's photo. Here the geese were close to the road and not at all concerned with the cars and photographers stopped to observe.

A Sandhill Crane can be seen walking behind the geese and the tiny dark speck to the left of the crane is a coyote. A few geese are circling overhead.

[This is my 1st time to post a video, so let me know of any issues.]

  15. Snow Geese
    Bosque del Apache NWR, NM

Spent most of yesterday down at the refuge and saw many hundreds of these geese (if not thousands.) Photo from 2020.

Absolutely a gorgeous winter's day in central NM. Not a cloud in the sky; no wind. Beautiful views of birds, pools, fields, and surrounding low mountains. Shirtsleeve temperatures by early afternoon.

Haven't looked at my photos, yet, but suspect I have some nice ones to share in the coming days.

  16. Morning at the Crane Pools
    Bosque del Apache NWR, NM

Over two dozen Sandhill Cranes are standing in the icy pool—they spend the night there as protection against predators, such as coyote. Around them are many, many Snow Geese who also spent the night here. Very soon all will take to the sky to head off to forage in the neighboring fields.

Only a small section of the much larger pool is shown in the photo. There are many more cranes and geese in the pool, and there are additional pools in the refuge, too.

  17. Crane Pools at Sunset
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, NM

This morning I reprocessed the original jpg taken by an old camera to remove the artificial saturation boost I'd given it at the time. This is much more natural and still shows the amazing beauty of that evening.

  19. Rio Grande Bosque
    Albuquerque Open Space, NM

A week ago the bosque was pretty much all green. Yesterday it was bursting with color. It hasn't gotten down to freezing yet this year, so must be the shorter days that trigger the change.

The Four-wing Saltbushes are full of mature seeds, too.

Photo taken with my old phone on my pleasant bike ride.
