Etwas kürzer, aber genauso traumhaft wie der erste Teil: Monument Valley II
Die Rätsel sind eher leicht, die „Geschichte“ bleibt philosophisch nebulös. Das spielt aber kaum eine Rolle, denn die in atmosphärische Akustik getauchten, sich oft tief vor M. C. Escher verneigenden Szenerien sind in einem wundervollen Grafikstil umgesetzt und animiert. Ein mystisch aufgeladenes Kunstwerk, mit Spielmechaniken garniert. Freue mich auf Teil III (derzeit noch auf der Wunschliste).

Monument Valley from the View overlook, first morning of a week camping through the Southwest. West Mitten, East Mitten, Merrick Butte. I pulled the exposure down and lifted the sky back up, so the buttes go to silhouette and the clouds keep their structure.

Monument Valley, not the postcard version. A foggy early morning, the buttes half-dissolved in low cloud, more suggestion than statement. Everyone shoots this place under a hard blue sky… I’ll take the weather.

Monument Valley makes the Southwest feel mythic.

Monument Valley. The classic shot lines up all three formations, but I framed just two… East Mitten on the left, Merrick Butte on the right… to give them more room and presence. That big streaky sky did the rest.

Monument Valley from Artist’s Point. I was after the depth… buttes bookending the frame, mesas and spires stacking back into the haze. The surprise was the green on the valley floor, greened up from the April timing.

Monument Valley, mood over detail. The formations sit in near-silhouette and the frame goes to that bold, streaky sky, with the road winding in along the valley floor. Some places earn the big dramatic sky.

Monument Valley with the priorities flipped. Focus on a small flowering desert shrub up close, the butte behind left soft… still unmistakable even blurred. A small living thing sharing the frame with something massive and ancient.

Looking down into the valley from Artist’s Point, Monument Valley. No sky, no horizon… just red ground, tumbled slabs, small caprock pillars. Looks more like something beamed back from Mars. Same iron oxide rusts both places red.

East Mitten Butte at Monument Valley, early morning. From the classic View Hotel viewpoint, I zoomed in to lift one butte out of the lineup and set it alone against a moody, cloud-streaked sky. At dawn it goes to near-silhouette.

Monument Valley. Left to right… West Mitten, East Mitten farther back, Merrick Butte apart. I left a long sweep of red sand out front to let the empty space carry the scale and the quiet.

Monument Valley. Used bleached dead branches to frame the Mitten, keeping the butte sharp while the branches go soft up front. Foreground that adds depth without stealing the frame.

Monument Valley. Looked straight up and waited for the sun to slip behind the edge of the rock. From down here it’s just you, the stone, and the sky.

Monument Valley. Used this twisted dead tree to frame the Mitten through the branches. Bleached wood, red sand, blue sky. The tree has as much character as the buttes.

Monument Valley. Yellow bush, rock formation, sun starburst…three layers stacked in one frame. The desert puts color and light together in ways you couldn’t plan.

Monument Valley. Got close to a pair of yucca stalks and let the formations go soft behind them. Still recognizable even out of focus…that’s how distinctive those shapes are.
