Look, the Artificial Delivery Driver industry simply couldn't exist if it were limited to selling goods it had the rights to. Sure it's not CURRENTLY legal, but it's already earned millions in revenue and it's important that these bold innovators aren't crushed by heavy-handed application of current legislation. #AI #news https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/10/highway-thieves-are-spoofing-gps-to-steal-millions-in-data-center-bound-cargo/

Hackers Use AI Agents to Target Over 2,250 Microsoft 365 Tenants Through ConnectWise
Hackers used AI agents and stolen ConnectWise application credentials to attempt access to more than 2,250 Microsoft 365 tenants, according to Microsoft’s technical investigation report. Microsoft attributed the campaign to Storm-0940, a China-state-aligned group, and said its ARTEX framework accelerated reconnaissance, authentication attempts, and cloud persistence. The targeting count does not mean every tenant was […] The post Hackers Use AI Agents to Target Over 2,250 Microsoft 365 Tenants Through ConnectWise appeared first on Cyber Security News .

Hackers Use Malicious Instagram Ads to Infect iPhones With Spyware Without a Click
Hackers are using malicious Instagram advertisements to infect vulnerable iPhones with spyware while users scroll through their feeds. A documented attack used a World Cup advertisement to deliver the P7 variant of DarkSword, exposing sensitive information without requiring the victim to tap the ad, download a file, or install an application. The findings show how […] The post Hackers Use Malicious Instagram Ads to Infect iPhones With Spyware Without a Click appeared first on Cyber Security News .

So our company's #1 destination for Quic SNI traffic is claude.ai, which we don't have a corporate policy to use, is not an approved application by our IT Department, is not addressed in our SOC2 policies, and took us a week to determine which machines were creating that 24/7 traffic, which works out to be machines accessing our most sensitive, highly-guarded, and critical data.
What could go wrong?

OpenAI claims its internal models produced three results: a disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a new proof of the Kakeya conjecture, and proofs for gauge field quantum field theories including QCD. The maths are formalised in Lean, and OpenAI wants academia to treat the write-ups as raw research data, not chase the credit.

"Garrett Langley, the CEO of automatic license plate reader company Flock, told an audience of police chiefs at a private police conference Sunday that anti-Flock protests around the country are not real, according to leaked audio obtained by 404 Media.
He also said his wife advised him to never apologize, said he would prefer to never do interviews with the press again, and claimed without evidence that the social media opposition to Flock is driven mostly by Russian bots.
“Somebody was paying for [the social media posts and] stopped paying for it,” Langley said about the many viral posts criticizing his company’s technology. “Social media chatter on Flock is down about 95 percent from July. It went down 50 percent last week when Ukraine bombed a Russian data center with a drone. Literally 50 percent overnight. And so look, I’m the last person, my wife as well, she’s like ‘This is crazy, these people are getting paid to say these things,’” he added, repeating a disproven theory that Ukraine’s strikes on Russian data centers had a significant impact on internet bot activity. #PHP-ocalypse: How two critical web bugs almost broke the #internet
The bugs are dubbed #PHP2Shell, it allow anyone who knows how to exploit them to break into an online system running PHP, such as a website or internet-facing server, without needing a password to access or modify its data.
As situations go, this was a pretty sizable one, forcing millions of people to scramble to patch their systems before malicious hackers could abuse them.

" We're building the world's first true AI-native hyperscaler. " - Nebius
What does that even mean, other than words that will impress your boss and open his purse.
Also, Nebius is a neocloud. All neoclouds are specifically made for AI. Sorry... I mean "AI-native".
Also also, Nebius is Yandex. Yes, -that- Yandex. Russian Yandex. While it's headquarters is now in Amsterdam, it's other offices are in Israel and the USA. Make of that what you will. And its newest data center is in that bastion of European data freedom ... Alabama.

RE: https://eupolicy.social/@edri/117483819583631579
Check all of EDRi's thread for a summary of the concerns with Europe's Digital Omnibus package [and why the Council is asking to be set on fire].
But this point REALLY is worth emphasizing.
Pretty much any business pushing (gen)AI —very much without exception business which you want to protect detour data from— can and will now use this as a excuse to expand their already toxic and extractive practices to ALL personal data [from EU citizens].
And every other who somehow isn't yet can (and also will) just add something “AI” and jump into the excuse.
I don't see how this could be different in effect from giving corporations blanket permissions over any and all personal data.
Bye-bye fragile European privacy, it was nice while you still did a something, if tiny. 😮💨

How did the grid react as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo passed through over the weekend?
This is something I pulled together over the weekend. It's part of a new video format that I'm exploring to better explain what's going on within the energy system and the wider context surrounding it (such as the weather).
As always, a huge credit is due to all the open data sources that make these visuals possible. I've listed them all at the end of the video, please check them out.
(Much) More soon…

AI-powered music recommendations are reshaping how we discover music.
Streaming platforms learn from listening history, skips, saves and broader taste patterns to predict what you may want next. That makes discovery more personal — but also gives algorithms influence over attention.#AI #Technology #Music #Spotify #Streaming #Algorithms #Media #Digital #Innovation #Data #Future

Dictionary.com has picked 'maxxing' as its 2026 Word of the Year, appearing in digital media almost 19 times more often in August than the 2025 monthly average. AI clearly drove the trend, with firms pushing staff to 'token-maxxing' before the costs arrived, and many now turning to token frugality. 'Data centre' made the top five. https://gizmodo.com/we-regret-to-inform-you-that-maxxing-is-dictionary-coms-2026-word-of-the-year-2000830118 #AI #GenAI #EnterpriseAI

Great idea for "reindustrialising" the UK.
Top priority should be to build domestic production of #GreenEnergy tech, drone/antidrone tech and alternatives to US techbro platforms. The UK could be the European leader for each.
Way, way, way down the list - #AI data centers that employ few, consume too much and put people out of work.

Today in the classroom:
First year chem is getting some intro notes on the structure of the periodic table. They'll color code and label their copy up.
Web dev is doing a code-along where we position elements on the page with all the different position properties as an interactive example.
AP Chem is starting atomic structure with empirical data. We'll do some notes and prep a lab.

The video of the talk we gave in May has finally been published!
The talk was titled "But I Have Nothing To Hide! Or How Big Techs and States made you believe so" and was presented at VLCTechFest in Valencia, Spain.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ
(or via Invidious: https://
invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=aca5EQ9RClQ)Its description was as follows:
"Data collection has become something that is hard to avoid in our modern societies. From telemetry to sensible personal data, many companies and even state actors rely on it for carrying out their operations. But is it really an issue? After all, I have nothing to hide.
What if I tell you that women were persecuted in the USA because they played to Candy Crush or used Tinder, and that their location data were sold to law enforcement which now criminalises people going to abortion clinics in some states? Or that it isn’t that difficult to figure out the real identity of spies with publicly sold data for little money? And when the data isn’t already available, state actors don’t hesitate to hack their own population, including in democratic countries like France and Spain.
Data collection has tangible impacts on our societies and democracies. Whether it’s for making business profits or controlling its own population while weakening adversary countries, the goal is the same: control. And with the current AI trend, data collection is reaching unprecedented highs.
So, what can we do about it in 2026? Thankfully, many technical and legal solutions exist, and we all have a role to play in it. Whether you are an entrepreneur, someone involved into the creation of a software, or a simple user, your choices can have a positive impact."
If you happen to watch it, let us know what you think.

One of the things that irk me is that we don't really have a way of tracking the long-term growth and changes of the #Fediverse .
Yes, there is fedidb.com , but it only seems to track user statistics for the last 30 days. Currently, the "monthly user base" seems to over at slightly over 1.3 million, which seems more than it was last year - but we don't really have a good long-term data set.
How does the user base of the Fediverse grow? What are specific events that cause the Fediverse to grow? And what differentiates accounts that stay from accounts that eventually stop being active?
There are a _lot_ of scientific examinations of commercial social media platforms. One would think that the Fediverse, with its open architecture, would also make such analysis possible, but I am not aware of any.
