I went out for another look and I brought the spotlight with me. Another bunch came into my yard from the hillside between my property and my neighbors. One of them was a bull elk. I'm not sure if he was the one doing the bugling. The females are making a little tiny noise as they move around. It's fascinating. I just hope there aren't any hunters up here this morning.
I wish I'd gotten a picture of that bull! He had a pretty good rack.

@RonSupportsYou
Not an opinion, Ron, this is the description from the account in question:
“#AI generated #sunset and #sunrise images created from AI generated prompts.”
And to be clear: my reply was to the account, you got cc-ed.
At any rate I have no issue with you posting whatever brings you joy. Speaking for myself, I prefer to see real art, created by real people, and not slop created by machines trained on stolen data. FWIW: I’ve found #Pixelfed to be a tremendous source of beautiful images, created by people all over the world. Photography truly is a universal language!
I’ve muted the account in question as I prefer not to see its output anymore. Your feed is your business. I certainly have enjoyed our other interactions in the past and hope to continue doing so.

My home server has been compromised for the past three days. A cron job has been running the #XMRig #cryptominer disguised as Plex Media Server.
I deleted #Plex, but it kept running and using all my CPU cores. I ChatGPT'd the solution and took care of it. The system is offline now, and scans are running, but I might reinstall the OS. I hope none of my data got corrupted.
This was the first time something like this happened to me.
**Please Don’t Ignore Our Cry for Help**
My family in Gaza is struggling to survive. We need food, basic necessities, and a safe place to live. Every day is a battle, and we cannot face it alone.
**Even a small donation can make a difference.** If you cannot donate, please share our story. Your kindness could bring hope to our family when we need it most.
Please don’t scroll past us. We need your help.

💔 I am a mother in Gaza, struggling to survive with my five children and our little cat. We have no access to the most basic necessities of life. Every day is a struggle to find food, clean water, and safety. My children deserve a childhood filled with love, warmth, and hope, not hunger and fear. I pray the world will hear our voices and remember families like ours. ❤️🇵🇸
Olga #Reviews: A Peril in Unseen Frequencies
Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Welcome, all. Some things are such a delight that they simply must be shared. Today Olga Núñez Miret posted an extraordinarily mindful review of “A Peril in Unseen Frequencies.” How could I not crow about it?
Olga is a genuinely amazing person. She is also an accomplished author herself (among many other inspiring things). Here’s a screenshot of Olga’s Amazon author page. She has 34 titles there, in multiple genres and different languages too.
Please meet me over at Olga’s blog. Just click that big blue link below. I’m closing comments here, but I hope to see you at Olga’s.

Here’s the obligatory shameless self-promotion
Although it’s a twisty mystery, it’s also a quick read. As I usually do, I included a section about technology and cultural items that are mentioned in the story.

Strange move. This must be bad for morale. Do they really think that many positions are unnecessary? Or do they hope to hire new/inexperienced people for less money?

"CSS-Tricks is an independent site once again!
Just to recap: DigitalOcean purchased CSS-Tricks in 2022 from Chris Coyier, who founded the site in 2007. Chris ran it all the way up to that purchase.
Here we are in 2026, and I’m taking independent ownership of the site.
So, wait, who owns the site? That’d be me. (Wow, never imagined I would get to say that!) Of course, I have a small, awesome team to help with the day-to-day management of the site.
That all said, I do envision that some things will change. In fact, I’m planning that they will change in what I hope are very good ways. Maybe a question-answer thing makes sense here since this is very much an evolving discussion."

If you follow me, you have a sense of humour. If you're reading this, you're a reader. I’ve put this story online, free, gratis and for nothing, it's a twelve minute read. If you like it, maybe you’ll be curious enough to risk 99p for one of my short story collections. Maybe you’ll be smart enough to save some money by buying a compilation. Maybe you’ll be brave enough to buy my novel. Whatever happens, I hope you enjoy ‘Vincent'. http://aarondavid.co.uk/Vincent.html #freeread #shortstory #funny #pleaseboost

How do I tell my elderly parents that I have nothing left to give them? We are in Gaza, struggling to find food, and I can barely meet my mother’s medical needs. Every day, I fear what tomorrow will bring. Please don’t let our suffering go unnoticed. Your small donation could mean a meal, medicine, and a little hope for my family. 🙏

And that is today's God Eater 2 stream done. Only managed to clear three story missions today, but those three story missions were enough to confirm pretty much all of my suspicions regarding Friar, the Black Plague patients, and Dr. Rachel. Yay? :blobcatSweats:
Story missions remaining: 12 (-3)
As always, I hope everyone enjoyed today's stream. Thank you all for joining :blobcatHeart:

We hope to see you there
The level of despair, oppression, and hunger we are enduring is more than anyone in this world should have to bear. We are besieged by the pain of poverty, starvation, a complete lack of safety and comfort, and the loss of our loved ones—all while having no one to help or stand by us We are exhausted from crying out to you for aid. Please, donate—even a little—so that we might survive

i can't believe it's been another year of pasta-ing.....
in this video i go through everything that happened in year 2. helpful if you've fallen out of the loop! though this video might leave you more confused. it doesnt help that you cant hear what i'm saying. anyway i did a mini mini pastamontage at the end too, hope you enjoy it
I'm sticking with CTWM for now. Nice to see that most GUI apps are automatically added to the menu (and show after a CTWM restart). I added some of the stragglers to a local .ctwmrc.
Browsers Firefox and Chromium did appear in the menu automatically. So did htop and Geany. Gvim and ROX did not.
So far, everything is very responsive. This COULD be a daily driver. More testing needed.
Next thing: Power management. #OpenBSD is great at this. Hope #NetBSD will bring it.
I added this update to my Eero/Ubiquiti post:
UPDATE, 2:32pm ET 10/26/26: The issue with Ubiquiti’s site was that its autocorrection of my address (adding “Township” after my town name) then made it reject my address. When I corrected that, Ubiquiti’s form changed my street’s suffix from “Ct.” to “CT,” which again failed to pass their validation. When I fixed that by hand, I was able to check out. I hope their web form validation isn’t a harbinger of their hardware quality.

The life that was promised: high School football games, a factory job, a wedding, a nuclear family, a house in the suburbs, two and a half children, a dozen grandchildren, a pipe and a folded newspaper, a lawn to mow... and a dog.
My life didn't turn out that way. It was hidden homosexuality, a broken closet door, dozens of boyfriends, cities, drugs, alcohol, AIDS and funerals, Hope, loss of Hope, health, and cancer. And now here I am, retired, in a city I love, happily married to a wonderful man.
10/10, would do it again.
Happy Monday everyone. Enough with the looking back. On with the week.
Just a reminder that the General Magic Watch Party is tomorrow, Oct 27th. More details and registration:
Registration is not required, you can just show up, but RSVPs help us with planning and setup. If you don't want to register via Luma, you can leave a replay to DM me.
Hope you see you tomorrow night.
It’s weird to think about a meme reaction sentence you haven’t seen in a while, and look up the origin before using it and realizing how fucked up and abusive the background is, and nope, not gonna use it.
I hope this girl is doing better now*.
The internet has been bad for a long long time.
* not gonna say, that probably applies to many situations, that’s the important part.
