As part of the massive I-35 expansion boondoggle, TxDOT has a huge project underway quite some distance from I-35 itself, over by Levander Loop/US183/Old Montopolis Bridge, diverting rainwater to the Colorado River (I think).
This is the thicket of cranes currently on the construction site. I ride by it on my commute to work.

I walked home tonight in the rain under a hat made from the local weekly newspaper. Haven't done that in a while.
Frankly, it's the best use of the Austin Chronicle in recent memory.

Went to Alamo South Lamar to see I Love Boosters. Great movie. The shopping complex the theater is in has instituted paid (and expensive) parking that’s completely unattended (of course). You’re supposed to be able to get credit after you pay if you are going to the theater, but the system they’re using for that isn’t working. The Alamo staff were having us write down our plate numbers. I’m less than confident this will work.
Since Sony’s takeover, I’ve cooled a lot on the Alamo in general. The food has gone downhill, the bathrooms are filthy (no surprise since they reduced staff), but it’s still expensive.
After Southwest Airlines took private equity, they remade themselves to be exactly as customer-hostile as all the other airlines. Before, I would always give them priority. Now I treat them like any other airline. I had given Alamo priority (so had lots of other people—shows would often be sold out there and wide-open at other theaters), but I’m going to start treating them like any other cinema.

I wonder if there was an explosion at the Jimmy Dean link pork sausage plant, because #HEB has been out of it for the past 2 weeks. Not even an empty spot in the display case where it would've been (otherwise that'd indicate online orders buy it all up before I get there). But then again HEB does that when they can't order products to carry at the price they want. This is the future, and the future is now, I guess.

I've been to several of these Thai restaurants, including top rated P.Thai Khao Mon Gai.
Verdict: Little Thailand in Del Valle is my hands-down favorite.
Everything on the menu is great, but their Boat Noodles is the absolute banger!!!
It has coconut milk and pig blood for richness, and (IMO) slays P.ThaiKMG's unpleasantly bitter version.

John Hiatt’s eighth studio album and his first on A&M. What a fantastic songwriter! Actually paid for by Demon Records in the UK, but picked up after being completed by A&M in the US.
Guests include Ry Cooder (doing harmony vocals on “Have a Little Faith in Me” as well as electric guitar and sitar work), Nick Lowe on bass, and Jim Keltner on drums, making this something of a proto-Little Village album. Also includes “Thing Called Love” that was later a hit for Bonnie Raitt.
My copy—via Waterloo Records in Austin TX—is a Columbia House club pressing (Carrollton) with CRC on the bottom of the rear cover.

Dessa is a part of the hip-hop collective Doomtree out of MInneapolis – great collection of artists and she is (for me) one of the standouts. She was also cohost of the Deeply Human podcast in 2021-2022.
My copy is a signed red-vinyl “Collector’s Edition” via Waterloo Records in Austin TX. Unfortunately my copy did not include the Custom Dopp Kit or the poster.
