Deshalb weiter #machen!

  4. A post on the face place reminded me that at one time back when I was still occasionally using MSFT wares I had the dominant text mincer application there tell me that

"The document is too large to save. Delete some text before saving."

(in Norwegian, evidence preserved as nxdomain.no/~peter/dokumentet_).

Now I'm a tad curious whether anyone else has been bitten by that variant. (This would have been early-noughties time if it matters)

Thank you for the recommendation to read Lawrence Rosen's "Open Source Licensing: Software Freedom and Intellectual Property Law", July 2004. It was very informative, and clarified a lot of issues for me around licensing, patents, trademarks, copyright, and contract law.

Because it was published in 2004, it only describes the GPLv2 and not the GPLv3 and does not include the AGPL. The strongest open source license in the book appears to be Rosen's own OSL (Open Source License) because of its broader focus not limited to "programs" or "files" as the GPL and MPL do.

Do you have any recommendations for a book to read that includes the newer open source reciprocal licenses and the more modern open source licensing landscape? I am hoping to compare the AGPL and the OSL and possibly newer reciprocal licenses, or understand newer arguments for/against reciprocal agreements.

    Thanks again!

  6. Let's talk about WordPerfect vs. Word too. WordPerfect 6.0 released in 1993 allowed freely to place images in the document and would even flow the text around the image if you placed it in the middle of the document.

Word still is absolute dog shit when dealing with images in documents in 2025. WordPerfect was not killed off by monopolists but by greedy corporations who calculated that WordPerfect cost 400 USD while MS Office cost 400 USD and also had Excel and PowerPoint.

  7. No, #MSWord, I do not want you to “helpfully” recheck the “Ordinals (1st) with superscript” setting every time you update.

I have spent my career battling this setting. It’s the 21st century, #Microsoft. Using superscript in abbreviations went out of style a long time ago!

  9. @msw @fedora For those who have at least once worked voluntarily to a free system #Distribution / #Distro that either follows the #GNU FSDG (like those that provide some part of #GNU, such as #Dragora, #Dyne:bolic, #GuixSystem / #GuixSD, #Hyperbola, #Parabola, #PureOS, #Trisquel, #UtutoS, #LibreCMC, #ProteanOS, or those which don't, such as #Replicant) or to a #Distro that is almost there (I'm waiting your reply, #Debian) per-language managers complicated things.

  10. Very excited to announce that I am launching the (tied-for) 1st #MSW (masters of #socialwork ) program that is #ZTC #OER and #workfirst.

If you know of anyone looking, we are a fully online program. Half sync/async. Designed for working students.

And recently awarded pre-candidacy by #CSWE.

#daswarennochzeiten

  17. @msw Would be interesting to see if one could push the #BSLLicense concept further in this regards, to enable mixing as long as the additional use grants are not conflicting

  18. It would really enhance my ability to finish this overdue report if #msword would stop making all my text disappear at random intervals.

Anyone know why this happens...and how to make it stop? (updating and rebooting have not helped)
