That's it. I've had it with #Guix. I'm going back to #NixOS. I might still use Guix as a package manager, but #GuixSD as an operating system is just not worth the trouble.

@solene I switched from #NixOS to #Guix System (then #GuixSD) in 2017 after two years as a nix user. A motivating factor for me was plain curiosity, but I found the guix community far more welcoming and friendly than the #Nix community at the time. Additionally, when I started writing my own packages and variants I was very pleased with the #Guile DSL compared to the Nix language, which was too limited, IMO. The common practice of using bash as an input to nix packages felt wrong from the start.

Trying to install GNU Guix #guixsd again because I'd like to test for something.

Congratulations GuixSD 1.4 announcement, it takes some hours to install guixsd in my VMWare virtual machines btw.

@msw @fedora For those who have at least once worked voluntarily to a free system #Distribution / #Distro that either follows the #GNU FSDG (like those that provide some part of #GNU, such as #Dragora, #Dyne:bolic, #GuixSystem / #GuixSD, #Hyperbola, #Parabola, #PureOS, #Trisquel, #UtutoS, #LibreCMC, #ProteanOS, or those which don't, such as #Replicant) or to a #Distro that is almost there (I'm waiting your reply, #Debian) per-language managers complicated things.

I did go into a bit of an #emacsrabbithole for a while and tried emacswm for while but didn’t have everything setup well. Using #guix desktop (#guixSD) for the last two months now as my #framework laptop daily driver. It's been working super well overall, but I have three things on my wishlist:

1) not having to enter my password twice on startup to decrypt my drive
2) kde support
3) better battery life (this is a framework / linux issue)
