The drawing above was done during Trump’s first term in office. I don’t recall the precise news item that made me draw this pied piper image, but it’s still relevant.
Only things are much worse.
It appears as though Trump is ratcheting up his efforts to create a police state, enforced by people who support him and believe in the tactics used on January 6th. We know Kristi Noem is sending thousands more ICE to Minneapolis. But that’s the tip of the iceberg. In Heather Cox Richardson’s column yesterday, she shared information about this increase in military power to enforce trump’s ideology and police American citizens. I quote her here because it’s important:
“Although ICE currently employs more than 20,000 people, it is looking to hire over 10,000 more with the help of the money Republicans put in their One Big Beautiful Bill Act of July. That law tripled ICE’s budget for enforcement and deportation to about $30 billion.
On December 31, Drew Harwell and Joyce Sohyun Lee of the Washington Post reported that ICE was investing $100 million on what it called a “wartime recruitment” strategy to hire thousands of new officers. It planned to target gun rights supporters and military enthusiasts as well as those who listen to right-wing radio shows, directing ads to people who have gone to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights or shopped for guns and tactical gear. It planned to send ads to the phone web browsers and social media feeds of people near military bases, NASCAR races, gun and trade shows, or college campuses, apparently not considering them the hotbeds of left-wing indoctrination right-wing politicians claim.”
Sunday night after an announcement from Trump’s DOJ would investigate the chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, in an unprecidented move, Powell released a video powerfully countering this action. Every living former head of the Federal Reserve condemned an “unprecedented” attempt by the Trump administration to weaken the central bank’s independence.

“The reported criminal inquiry into Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell is an unprecedented attempt to use prosecutorial attacks to undermine that independence,” a blunt statement signed by 13 former senior officials said. “This is how monetary policy is made in emerging markets with weak institutions, with highly negative consequences for inflation and the functioning of their economies more broadly. It has no place in the United States whose greatest strength is the rule of law, which is at the foundation of our economic success.”
Powell argued he had been threatened with criminal charges because the Fed had set interest rates “based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the president”.
The Federal Reserve is designed to be independent of presidents to avoid exactly what Trump is trying to do, writes Heather Cox Richardson. Senator Tillis, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee posted that “[i]f there were any remaining doubt whether advisers within the Trump Administration are actively pushing to end the independence of the Federal Reserve, there should now be none. It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question.”
More agents are being sent to Minnesota and Kristi Noem ordered restrictions on congressional oversight.
Hopeful news: States are moving to rein in ICE.
In a long NY Times interview, Trump said civil rights led white people to be “very badly treated.”
I wanted to share this video below with you, a very strange Trumo moment. I know there’s a lot of strange moments with Trump, but this one stuck out to me. Last week he was in a boardroom at the White House with oil executives, and he paused the meeting to wander over the window and boast about the plans for his new ballroom. It was extremely awkward, it seemed to me, people laughing nervously at what he was doing. It also seemed very much like a man who can’t control himself and his egocentric, narcissistic tendencies, and in some ways he knew it hadn’t worked.

ALL of the relentless hostile things that Trump is doing in the last few weeks is a reaction to the Epstein Files. Trump’s DOJ has released less than 1% of the Epstein Files, and much of those released are ridiculously redacted as to be useless. They are trying to distract us.

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he would nominate Kevin Warsh to be the next chair of the Federal Reserve, an independent agency that has been under pressure from the president to lower interest rates for the last year.
If confirmed, Warsh would succeed Fed Chair Jerome Powell — a previous Trump nominee who has incurred the president’s ire for not heeding his demands — when Powell’s term expires in May.

Warsh served on the Fed Board of Governors from 2006 through 2011, where he had an opportunity to help shape the U.S. economy during one of its greatest periods of turmoil in recent history. Now a fellow at the Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank, and a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, he also worked as an economic advisor to President George W. Bush.
Experts appear to view Warsh’s nomination with “cautious relief,” said Mark Gertler, a professor of economics at New York University.
Here are three things to know about Warsh and how he might influence the Fed as the agency’s new head.
1. Warsh is a lawyer, not an economist
Like Powell, Warsh has a J.D., not a Ph.D. in economics. Powell was the first Federal Reserve chair in 30 years to not have a doctorate in economics.
“The Fed’s culture is Ph.D. economists on top,” said Aaron Klein, a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution.
“I think Powell was pretty deferential to what the professional staff economists’ view was,” he added.
But Warsh may have a different approach, said Klein, who first met him when Warsh was working at the National Economic Council at the White House. Lawyers view the world through a different cultural lens than macroeconomists do, he said.

“The question is: Is Kevin going to shake up the culture of the Fed staff? Or is he going to show deference to the Fed’s Ph.D. economists who are accustomed to running the show?” Klein said.
That could influence his policy decisions, too, Gertler said. Warsh isn’t an economist and doesn’t speak — or necessarily reason — like one, he added.
“The reason I’m not too worried is Powell was not an economist either, but Powell learned over time. In fact, I think (he) learned pretty well,” Gertler said. “I’m hopeful that the same will be true with Warsh — that is, put him in there with a bunch of economists and they will help sharpen his thinking.”
2. In many ways, Warsh is a conservative pick
While not a macroeconomist by education, Warsh has a relatively traditional background for a Fed chair nominee, experts said.
He’s an academic with experience in the executive branch, as well as on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and is knowledgeable about financial markets. During his term as a board member, he was instrumental in helping then-Chair Ben Bernanke navigate the 2008 financial crisis.
“Warsh is a serious guy with a long track record and a deep experience,” Klein said. “Warsh was the Fed board’s interlocutor with the markets during the financial crisis.”
Gertler said that knowledge about financial markets is an important characteristic in a Fed chair, because while interest rate setting isn’t easy, it’s “straightforward.” But understanding the markets requires “specialized expertise,” which Gertler said he thinks Warsh has.

Warsh also has a history of being intellectually conservative, Klein said, with an eye toward reducing government intervention in the markets.
“He’s not some outsider. This is not like Pete Hegseth coming in, or Kristi Noem, or whatever. This is someone who does have some genuine expertise, and he has been at the Fed,” Gertler said.
“He has not come across as overtly political in the way some other candidates did,” he added.
Warsh likely understands the Fed’s culture and is unlikely to “try and tear the place apart,” Gertler noted. That’s giving experts reason for some relief, he said.

A ausência do ethos!!!
Só hoje com calma é q assisti aos 50 minutos da entrevista que Sergey Lavrov (tratado por Sergey Viktorovish - literalmente "filho de um Viktor" - o nome do pai deste que era um Arménio a viver em Tiblisi na Geórgia, agora estado independente, então em 1951, quando nasceu Lavrov nasceu a, República Socialista Soviética da Geórgia) e de facto não fosse eu um interessado na política internacional e na compreensão do ethos do adversário com quem o mundo ocidental se defronta actualmente tinha adormecido ou mudado de canal.
E falemos sobre ethos enquadrado na arte da retórica pode ser definida como "a arte de escolher o melhor argumento a cada caso com o fim de persuadir", e que é usado em amiúde nos meios diplomáticos. Nesta arte é considerado que existem três modos de persuasão: ethos, pathos e logos.
Resumidamente:
Ethos: persuade-se pelo caráter, por quem é o orador, se este é digno de fé;
Pathos: persuade-se pela emoção, pelos sentimentos causados de tristeza ou alegria, amor ou ódio;
Logos: persuade-se pela lógica dos argumentos apresentados.Assim sendo porque aludi ao "ethos" e não ao "pathos" ou ao "logos" de Sergey Viktorovish Lavrov, primeiro porque o "pathos" não existiu, o homem estava literalmente a fazer um frete, segundo porque inexistiu "logos", ou seja, lógica argumentária apresentada e por fim porque o que se pôde aferir foi a falta de ética total do interveniente.
Era o que poderia eventualmente safar este Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros da Federação Russa, este apresentar algum carácter e alguma boa fé, pois já conhecemos que em termos de argumentos apresentados que inexiste uma lógica total e, que em termos de emoção este sempre apresenta um ar de frete médio muito comum desde o início do seu cargo diplomático.
E a boa fé e a falta de ética foi tal que posso referir vários pontos em que esta foi mais evidente (embora fosse transversal a toda a entrevista):
1. Que foi o ocidente que começou com as ameaças nucleares o que é totalmente contrário à realidade e aos factos, pois estas ameaças Russas existiram de forma continua nos últimos onze anos, muito antes até desde a invasão e ocupação e anexação ilegal da Crimeia e dos territórios destruídos e sujeitos a ocupação, genocídios e pilhagens largamente documentadas e generalizadas;
2. Que o regime democrático e legítimo ucraniano é um regime nazi (este repetiu esta ofensa pelo menos doze vezes) com um fantoche dos ocidentais como Presidente, ou seja, Zelensky, o que tornaria automaticamente todos os paises que o apoiam como não legitimos e neo-nazis;
3. Que a guerra foi uma reacção ao genocídio cultural e físico dos russófonos e que existe russofobia no ocidente;
4. Que no ocidente não existe contraditório e pior que todos alinham pelo discurso pelo lado ucraniano e, embora esse apoio seja esmagador é preciso perceber que em Portugal tanto o PCP como as bases militantes do CHEGA são pró russofonas enquanto e neste último partido os seus líderes só não o são por questões de demagogia, pois todos partidos afiliados à sua linha política neo fascista, neo nazi e anti democrática o são na restante Europa;
5. Por fim que não existem investigações aos abjectos actos e diversos genocídios a civis na invasão ilegal e ilegítima ao território ucraniano, nomeadamente ao massacre de Bucha.Como vemos a ausência de "logos" foi total e a esta juntou-se a falta de "ethos", já para não falar do "pathos"!!!
