Descubriendo el video federado: La infraestructura descentralizada de PeerTube y Sepia Search

El motor de indexación independiente que conecta la producción audiovisual de la web abierta

El consumo de contenido audiovisual en internet ha estado concentrado durante años en plataformas corporativas centralizadas que condicionan la visibilidad de los videos a algoritmos de monetización, recolección masiva de datos personales y censura unilateral. Como alternativa a este modelo, la organización francesa Framasoft desarrolló PeerTube, una infraestructura de código abierto basada en el protocolo ActivityPub que permite a cualquier individuo, colectivo o institución montar su propio servidor independiente para alojar videos. Para resolver este inconveniente y facilitar la navegación comunitaria sin vulnerar los principios del software libre nació Sepia Search, una herramienta de búsqueda oficial accesible a través del dominio sepiasearch.org Este portal opera exclusivamente como un indexador de metadatos que recopila de forma automatizada los títulos, descripciones, etiquetas y canales de las instancias de PeerTube que deciden registrarse públicamente en su lista de indexación, ofreciendo una puerta de acceso unificada para explorar el ecosistema audiovisual federado.

A diferencia de los buscadores comerciales que rastrean el historial de navegación, la ubicación geográfica y los hábitos de consumo de las personas para vender publicidad dirigida, Sepia Search destaca por su estricto compromiso con la privacidad y la neutralidad de los datos. El motor de búsqueda procesa las consultas devolviendo los resultados en orden cronológico o por relevancia directa de palabras clave, sin alterar la visibilidad de los videos mediante algoritmos de recomendación forzada ni almacenar perfiles de usuario. Esta combinación tecnológica proporciona a la comunidad digital una plataforma completa y transparente para descubrir contenidos independientes, demostrando que es viable sostener un ecosistema de video a escala global basado en la cooperación descentralizada, el respeto a la soberanía individual y la autonomía de las redes abiertas.

Why doesn't #duckduckgo include results from the peertube-verse?

It is great to see the #PeerTube ecosystem gaining substance. I did not really study this quantitatively, but I find myself ever more often having luck trying a #SepiaSearch before a #duckduck video search. There are some genres very well represented, in particular the more nerdy stuff, naturally.

On #MakerTube where I help moderation, I see an actual clear increase in users and daily content creation.

Why doesn't #duckduckgo include results from the peertube-verse?

and fun fact: tho i've watched topless topics before i came across this video searching 'fetish' on #SepiaSearch . was looking for other fetish content after releasing my own. and what do you know the next video on the queue is vile video vomitorium! guessing because we both use 'fetish' as a tag lol, very different kinds of videos to put it mildly!
