  1. Yet even that is not enough. Successive Labour leaders enabled and indulged #Mandelson, despite clear evidence of trouble. #Kinnock first promoted Mandelson. #JohnSmith wisely shunned Mandelson, but #Blair & #GordonBrown both brought #Mandelson into senior government posts, and even made him an #EUcommissioner.

This isn't about #OllyRobɓins, or Mandelson, or even Starmer & McSweeney. It's about 2 generations of thoroughly rotten politics in a major political party.

  6. A company with active #NHS contracts paid for a #Labour #health minister’s luxury trip to California, The National can reveal.

Cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks covered the expenses for Stephen #Kinnock – Labour’s care minister and husband of former Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt – to join her on a 5-day trip in August to Napa Valley, a world-famous wine region.

    🔸To win the #election, #KeirStarmer should learn from #Labour's historic 1992 loss🔸

🔹In 1992, #Labour looked all but certain to win the general #election. A shock defeat handed the #Conservatives a record fourth term in office

#Kinnock resigned, and the Labour leader who followed began a project to renew Labour's fortunes focusing on growth through fair treatment of working people - the parallels with today are striking

  8. @AnthonyFStevens

Well I think it is a bit different - Militant was a long-lasting problem that #Kinnock spent years neutralising - in the process he became too associated with that fight to win an election (I think he was LOTO 9 years!)

#Momentum was not as deeply rooted in the party - many were entryists (both far left & Tory right) under the foolish Milliband scheme to encourage mass voting on Labour leadership - Starmer once leader has spent little time removing them from influence

  9. @AutisticMumTo3

I am no expert on the matter, but the few I have followed up all showed unaccepatble behaviour.

Corbyn let in an awful lot of unacceptable entryists of the sort #kinnock fought hard to keep out.

Any conflation of views on the behaviour of the Israeli state and attitudes to individuals who happen to be Jews is unacceptable - and it is very common. Several female MPs were hounded out by their personal attacks.

We do not do that with Russians or Americans - so why Jews?

  10. @Archie8

Well if you believe that there is no helping you.....

Every time the left run #labour they lose the election - apart from 1945, when the leadership had all been in Churchill's wartime cabinet

    #Wilson (3 times) #Blair (3 times) #Starmer (I am sure - hopefully 3 times)

    Rather than

    #Foot #Kinnock #Corbyn (twice)

  11. Forty years on, Neil Kinnock's speech on the effects of Tory Government are eerily prescient and depressingly accurate.

  12. @richard_f

Not sure people want "exciting" - quite enough of that with last 2 PMs

Whatever you say, traditionally elections aren't held in winter for sound reasons.

We've now had 14 months continuous #Labour lead in every single poll - the longer that lead remains (it shows no sign of dropping from over 21%) the more fixed it is.

I understand #labour politicians being wary of over-confidence after #kinnock debacle - but this is a very different era & #starmer will not make that miss-step

  13. @AndrewGuilford

Well there may be some truth - all I know is that whenever #labour tries to go left and appoints a leader from the #left it loses. #Wilson, #Blair won elections (3 each) #foot, #kinnock, #milliband and #corbyn lost them.

So I am unconvinced it is purely a personal reaction - more likely the red-tops poison the water for such leaders in reaction to their policies.

I am sick of #labour losing.

  14. @Malditopelirrojo

Well that is not what polls say - and no #labour leader - not #foot, #kinnock, #milliband or #corbyn - has won from the #left of #labour since 1945 when there are a world war on and returning troops yearned for a new jerusalem

#wilson and #blair are the model for winning power, not #benn

(not a phrase that works in the current era when Palestine is ablaze....but it was the one used then)

  16. @Chillax

to maintain a #labourLead over the #ToriesOut, all #starmer must do is promise to do better than the #kipperTories in sorting out their mess

after 4 successive #generalElection defeats, being cautious is inevitable

    Remember #kinnock in 1992!
