  4. #Transport for #London has opened a new #accessible toilet at White Hart Lane #Overground station, with Seven Sisters to follow, as part of a £15 million, five-year investment to improve toilet access across the network. New facilities are also planned for Amersham, Clapton and Morden, while up to 12 existing toilets, including at Canary Wharf and Wembley Central, will be refurbished. An audit has identified where improvements are most needed at bus stations, supporting Transport for London's Equity in Motion strategy to make transport more inclusive. There are currently 146 TfL-managed toilets, with further facilities in non-TfL stations. Staff can advise customers on nearby options and provide access to RADAR key toilets. 6. #Transport for #London (#TfL) has announced a ban on non-folded e-bikes across its transport network, effective 31 March 2025, following safety concerns. While most #ebikes are safe, there have been incidents where non-folding e-bikes caught fire on the network. The ban will apply to the #Tube, #Overground, Elizabeth Line, and #DLR, but foldable e-bikes will still be allowed. TfL’s review, in collaboration with the London Fire Brigade, found that conversion kits for standard cycles pose a higher fire risk. Non-folding e-bikes are already banned on buses and trams. Exceptions include the Woolwich Ferry, river services, and certain coach services. TfL is working with the government to improve e-bike safety. Customers not complying with the ban may face fines up to £1000. TfL is the first #UK operator to enforce such a ban.

On-board Passenger Information Displays for Class 345, Class 710 and B23 trains

There is no official design standard for the displays, as they comply with The Rail Vehicle Accessibility (Non-Interoperable Rail System) Regulations 2010, which can be found online. For the Class 710, key documents related to technical specifications and accessibility are available online or for purchase, including #EU regulations on #accessibility and rolling stock, and various European standards on PRM use and train voice systems. The dimensions of the displays on the Class 710 are 700mm x 132mm. Regarding the Class 345, its design standard is intellectual property owned by Alstom, which has objected to its release, citing commercial concerns and potential legal action. However, an alternative design guide for the Class 345, a #TfL-owned document, is available, detailing changes to reflect the #Overground line renaming.

  14. Improving passenger #transport#Hertfordshire #Essex Rapid #Transit (HERT) is a proposed sustainable east–west network to improve connectivity across Hertfordshire. It would carry more people than cars and offer faster, more reliable journeys than conventional buses, linking towns, rail stations and growth areas.

After reviewing options including rail and bus rapid transit, a trackless tram has been selected as the preferred mode due to its capacity, flexibility, lower cost and quicker delivery.

The scheme aims to support economic growth, reduce congestion and emissions, and improve access to jobs and services through electric vehicles, walking and cycling links, and mobility hubs.

It will be delivered in phases using a ‘building block’ approach alongside bus improvements, with no fixed completion date. Public engagement and events are planned for May 2026 across Hertfordshire.

  24. #Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL issued a response to a request about the withdrawal of New #Routemaster #buses from routes 8 and 16 and any plans to remove them from other services. The requester noted strong public support for the vehicles and highlighted their design benefits for disabled, neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ passengers, citing features such as calming lighting, colour contrast and the multi-door layout. They asked for any Equality Impact Assessments and for papers or correspondence from the Independent Disability Advisory Group relating to these decisions, and raised concerns that earlier queries had not addressed accessibility issues. TfL said that, after carrying out the required searches under the Freedom of Information Act and its information access policy, it does not hold any information relevant to the questions submitted.

  25. This set of unofficial edited drawings illustrates the experimental #Routemaster (XRM), a forward-thinking #London bus concept developed by London Transport in the 1970s. Designed with a low-floor chassis, three doors, and two staircases, it aimed to offer full wheelchair accessibility—a revolutionary feature at the time. Diagrams include both four-axle and two-axle versions with alternative layouts, highlighting dedicated wheelchair spaces. Despite its potential, the XRM project was abandoned in the early 1980s due to financial, technical, and institutional hurdles, marking a missed opportunity for early accessible public #transport in London.
