Network Rail will begin replacing four 130-year-old railway bridges carrying #London #Overground #trains over roads in Forest Gate later this summer. The bridges at Talbot Road, Strode Road, Stracey Road and Latimer Road, on the Suffragette line between Leytonstone High Road and Woodgrange Park, are being renewed to improve reliability and help prevent future disruption. Work starts at Talbot Road and Stracey Road on 1 September, followed by Strode Road and Latimer Road on 28 September. Roads and pavements beneath each bridge will be closed throughout the project, with further temporary closures in 2027. New bridge decks will be installed in spring 2027, with completion due by late summer. Some weekend closures on the Suffragette line are also planned. Residents have been notified and public information sessions will be held in August.

The #Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has published its report into an incident at Norwood Junction station on 1 July 2025, when a #London #Overground train departed with a portable access ramp still attached. The ramp struck a platform barrier and fell beside the track. No one was injured, although a passenger and a member of staff took evasive action. The ramp was destroyed and the train sustained minor damage.
RAIB found that an incorrect type of ramp had been used, allowing the train doors to close and the train to move off. The correct ramp had been unavailable since 2021 and station checks failed to identify the issue. The driver departed believing it was safe to do so, but safety checks were ineffective and distraction caused by a mobile phone call was considered a likely factor. Six recommendations have been made covering ramp management, regulations and driver mobile phone use.

Yesterday, back with my usual group – the @Metwalkers (I Walktober'd about 40 miles this weekend! 😳) and we saw just how much #countryside is within easy reach of #Overground lines!
Along with portentous #alpacas and a #heron out standing in its field (in the #rain, but he don't care).

#Transport for #London has opened a new #accessible toilet at White Hart Lane #Overground station, with Seven Sisters to follow, as part of a £15 million, five-year investment to improve toilet access across the network. New facilities are also planned for Amersham, Clapton and Morden, while up to 12 existing toilets, including at Canary Wharf and Wembley Central, will be refurbished. An audit has identified where improvements are most needed at bus stations, supporting Transport for London's Equity in Motion strategy to make transport more inclusive. There are currently 146 TfL-managed toilets, with further facilities in non-TfL stations. Staff can advise customers on nearby options and provide access to RADAR key toilets. A Toilet Tube Map and the #TfL Go app are available to help passengers locate accessible facilities across the network.

#Transport for #London (#TfL) has announced a ban on non-folded e-bikes across its transport network, effective 31 March 2025, following safety concerns. While most #ebikes are safe, there have been incidents where non-folding e-bikes caught fire on the network. The ban will apply to the #Tube, #Overground, Elizabeth Line, and #DLR, but foldable e-bikes will still be allowed. TfL’s review, in collaboration with the London Fire Brigade, found that conversion kits for standard cycles pose a higher fire risk. Non-folding e-bikes are already banned on buses and trams. Exceptions include the Woolwich Ferry, river services, and certain coach services. TfL is working with the government to improve e-bike safety. Customers not complying with the ban may face fines up to £1000. TfL is the first #UK operator to enforce such a ban.

On-board Passenger Information Displays for Class 345, Class 710 and B23 trainsThere is no official design standard for the displays, as they comply with The Rail Vehicle Accessibility (Non-Interoperable Rail System) Regulations 2010, which can be found online. For the Class 710, key documents related to technical specifications and accessibility are available online or for purchase, including #EU regulations on #accessibility and rolling stock, and various European standards on PRM use and train voice systems. The dimensions of the displays on the Class 710 are 700mm x 132mm. Regarding the Class 345, its design standard is intellectual property owned by Alstom, which has objected to its release, citing commercial concerns and potential legal action. However, an alternative design guide for the Class 345, a #TfL-owned document, is available, detailing changes to reflect the #Overground line renaming.

When I see the colours of the new versions (same, but separate) of the #London #overground lines, which are too similar to other #tube lines’ #colours I wonder if more than person on the team there is also hecking annoyed that they didn’t find more distinct colours out of the many available. What the heck happened, were they legally restricted to a limited palette or did they just not notice?
