Late one evening, early one morning…
Last night I went out with the local Wildlife Trust, for a beaver walk along the River Avon. Beavers had been extinct in the UK since the nineteenth century, but whether by illegal release or captive escape they’ve arrived back in the West Country and seem to be thriving.
The picture is dark… it was dark! This is the best I can do post-processing without making the whole thing look fake. You can just make out the tail dipping into the water, which they use both in swimming and in slapping the water as an alert to others. The size was a surprise – it’s the size of a small dog, and perhaps the blackberries hanging above it give a clue.
Gotta luvva fat beaver, eh.
Then, this morning, Janet opened the front door to this:
It took a while for her to clean the crap off the wellies! I mean… we love wildlife an’ all, but come on… If it’s not clear it’s a juvenile wood pigeon, which presumably roosted in our porch overnight.
