🚈🇦🇺 #Alstom has introduced the first of 100 Next Generation G Class trams into passenger service in #Melbourne under a €700 million contract awarded in 2022. Based on the Flexity 2 platform, the trams are built at Alstom's Dandenong factory with more than 65% local content and supported by a new maintenance facility in #Maidstone. The programme has supported more than 2,000 jobs and included a A$40 million investment to expand local manufacturing. Developed with input from more than 1,000 stakeholders, including disability groups, drivers and passenger representatives, the trams feature step-free access, regenerative braking, wider aisles, more doors and capacity for over 150 passengers. The fleet will be introduced in stages across Melbourne's tram network, improving accessibility, capacity and passenger comfort.

🚍⚠️🚉 Buses will replace trains between #Ashford International, #Maidstone East and Borough Green & Wrotham from 23 to 31 May while major engineering work is carried out to improve reliability on the line.

Network Rail will stabilise 150-year-old rock cuttings near Maidstone East, upgrade three miles of drainage, replace nearly 2,300 metres of track between Harrietsham and Charing, install new switches and crossings at Maidstone East, and renew the level crossing at Ryarsh Lane near West Malling. Engineers will also inspect bridges and carry out maintenance across the route.

Accessible replacement buses will operate throughout the closure, including a minibus between West Malling and East Malling. Passengers are advised to check before travelling and allow extra time. Some parking at Maidstone East will be unavailable during the works.
