I recall going there a few times when I lived in #Dersingham and #KingsLynn back in the late 1970s. Moved to #Peterborough in 1982.

  5. We moved to #Winterton-on-Sea in October last year. It's an old #fishing #village on the #Norfolk #coast

As you might imagine it's popular place to #holiday and many of the #cottages are used as a #secondhome and holiday let's.

These photos were taken yesterday as we walked to the village #PostOffice to have breakfast!

Wish I had a good answer to that one. Being a #boater I have never tried actually seeing the #Broads by land. Places like #Wroxham and #Horning have plenty of possibilities for #riverside views but not broads.

Most Broads have edges too soggy to have roads near them and most of the banks are in private hands or the hands of organisations such as the #NationalTrust and #Norfolk #Wildlife Trust, whose priorities do not to encourage unencumbered access by the masses.

Malthouse Broad, near Ranworth, must be one of the best exceptions. I've never tried to reach Salhouse or Wroxham by road, but the owner of the first offers moorings which are accessible from a car park some 800yds away and it's probably possible to explore the grounds around the sailing club at Wroxham Broad.

If you don't mind being part of a party then the #NWT do have guided walks at #Hickling.

And this was us #westbound and #stationary on the A47 south of #Norwich as we filtered into the single lane in the roadworks approaching the A11 junction, heading for #Cheshire and a brief visit to see our #granddaughter.

The #BBC #weather app for our #village reported this morning we were in an hour of #drizzle, so I took the first of these pictures as we set out to take breakfast at the #postoffice.

Last October we moved to the old fishing village of Winterton-on-Sea on the #Norfolk #coast. You can tell that from the fact the PO sells buckets and spades and we pass a #lighthouse on the way #home.

I'm familiar with that #napping thing. I drop off for an hour or two most evenings in front of the TV between 19:00-21:00.

I had a #hospital appointment this week (not about the #sleep thing) and when I thought about all the questions he asked, which were all along the lines of "Can you (action) like you used to?" basically the doctor, in the nicest possible way, was saying, "Face it! You're #old! What do you expect at your #age?"

  15. Although we've moved I'm still planning to maintain our old Ruston House site. I'm still to update the introductory pages.
This is "Today's Image", taken in July 2013.
Lots more #wildlife to see around the #lake and #grounds.

  16. Our back #garden, is surrounded by 9ft high #brick walls. I #tease my wife by calling it the #prison #exercise #yard. This week we had a 5x10ft #shed erected in a corner by the #garage

BTW, I'm curious about the #bond used in the #wall. Does anyone have a name for it?

    Until a couple of weeks ago I hadn't eaten at a #Chinese #Restaurant in about 40 #years.

Diana and I went to one a couple of weeks ago while staying in #Cheshire for a few days. We went to the "Chinese Delight" in Frodsham and had their "#Banquet for Two" as we weren't sure what to order.

I failed to take any photos of the soup course and only started as I was half way through the next one, but these are some of the images I sent on our family WhatsApp Group. We hadn't realise quite how much we had ordered, when looking at the menu. These days we usually feel quite full on those lunchtime "#SeniorCitizen Discount Deals".

If you're feeling hungry, we'd recommend the place.

  22. Back in November we were staying at our son's, dog-sitting, while they were on #holiday. I took a #guitar with me, my #Fender #Sonoran #Thinline. It's not a guitar with a great reputation and was deleted from their catalogue within a couple of years. Perhaps one of the reasons for that were the #cheap #Chinese tuners.

I was placing the guitar in its case and allowed the neck to fall the final six inches. Unfortunately, it was slightly out of line and a tuner hit the side of the case. The plastic button did not survive.

I was amazed to find there's no such thing as a standard #Stratocaster neck. Tuners are sold in sets of six and I found sets that had the separation between first and sixth string of 117mm 119mm and 120mm and, I dare say, there were others available.

My guitar turned out to need a 119mm set. I opted for a metal replacement button. I only learned afterwards that I hadn't fitted the string in the way intended with a slot headed tuner.

  25. We have always made a #habit of #eatingout on a #Friday evening. Since our house move this has often at a #pub in the neighbouring village of #Hemsby #Norfolk

Those in the #uk will be aware that the #coast is moving rapidly inland there and with each new #storm more #clifftop #houses are lost to the #sea

I wonder what message the #landlord has in mind with a poster on the restaurant wall that reads:

Memories Made On The Beach Last A Lifetime

"The Wash" is the square bite out of the east coast of #England that separates the East Cost of #Lincolnshire and the North coast of #Norfolk.

"The Broads" are the collection of rivers and their associated flooded medieval peat diggings that drain into the North Sea at #GreatYarmouth and #Lowestoft, the most easterly point of England.

Here's the bridge in question, over the #River #Thurne. Headroom at the top of the arch is around 6ft currently. It is downstream of #Hickling Broad, the the largest of the broads, some 1,500 acres. There's also the #Martham #Broad (approx 150 acres) and #Horsey #Mere (82 acres) above it and various other lesser stretches of water. There is some tidal effect below the bridge, sufficient after heavy rain and at high Spring tides to stop water flowing downstream through the bridge and hence keep water levels high above the bridge.

    More from the article follows.

Well, I hadn't found you just because you don't toot.

Then suddenly my server adds a scrolling #WhoToFollow" feature and you crop up.

As has been suggested you joined at a time of very heavy load on all Mastodon servers, which can't have helped you.

But, it's true there are surprisingly few #uk #canal enthusiasts on Mastodon and most post rarely - and that includes me.

There's lots more of my boating going back to the late 1950s on the site.
