We went to view the flight of 11 locks at Hélé. A few stationary boats but nothing moving. The locks are very solidly built of stone and well maintained.. #BoatsThatToot

My boat is a 25' GRP cruiser that really doesn't like going astern. With helm to port the stern goes to port. With the helm hard over to starboard it goes straight back. Sometimes providing the wind and current are cooperating. If I really want to go starboard I have to line it up using forward gear then hope it'll go straight back. It's 'prop walk' that does it. Also makes turning to port when going forward a much wider turn than turning to starboard. #BoatsThatToot

I have just discovered that "Today's Image" on my site https://gregafloat.org.uk failed to show a link to the #report of the #trip my ex and I took aboard nb Stolen Time in 2002 that I uploaded only last month. I've now corrected that, so there is now a "Read More" link.

I should warn you the report stretches to two pages and includes some 10,000 words and almost 70 images. A lot has changed in the 24 years since we made that trip!

I haven't checked out the video, it's arguments or it's figures, but to a large extent living on a #boat depends on being able to keep it somewhere there is reliable water on which to float it and somewhere you can raise enough income to maintain it, not to mention whether you have aspirations to own more stuff than you could keep on a boat, which the vast majority do, especially if they plan to raise kids on a boat.

It's been a while since I reported on our own #boat. Before coming to Cheshire I did manage to call in on the #mooring and remove the #heaters from her as, with any luck, there won't be any more #cold snaps that justify trying to stop the boat from #freezing.

She really is beginning to look as if she needs a really good #clean. We had promised ourselves she'd be lifted out last #winter = but the house move got in the way and it was never arranged.

Yes YES babes it is sunny on the river today and I have this morning successfully cruised my 60 tons of Dutch barge to the water point and back after a lot of prep, for only the second time ever. Turning a 74 foot boat in an 80-90 foot wide river is not for the faint of heart but it was was pretty smooth this time. @bee welcome! I don't use Facebook, and I'm not in any WhatsApp groups except for a vaguely related one where some marina residents chat about stuff. While there are some narrowboat hashtags here (such as #boatsthattoot) there's not much traffic. There's more in the r/Narrowboats subreddit which I can recommend. Other than that, I'm not part of any online group. HTH!
