  1. Housing insecurity is a huge bugbear for middle class people, one I am still in the process of wrangling. We are brought up in such a way that the threat of housing insecurity becomes a thought terminating cliché, it is unthinkable, it is THE WORST, it feels like death. To the point that most middle class people can't even consider the notion of paying rent a bit late.

This fear is blown so much out of proportion. It's what gives landlords so much power, because most people are so deeply cowed, even if they don't think capitalism and its ways of domiating land and housing and people is right. They still go along with it, when mass organised rent strikes could be such easy and effective actions. Why obey landlords at all?

  2. The media is at it again. Headlines scream that landlords exiting the market will cause a rental crisis. But think for a second: if an investor sells a house, it doesn't vanish. It's sold to someone who will likely live in it. That means one less renter competing for a home.
This isn't a crisis; it's a market correction towards more owner-occupiers. But that doesn't get clicks.

  3. #US targets six #landlord giants in war on alleged algorithmic rent fixing or “algorithmic pricing schemes”
The US Justice Department on Tuesday expanded its #antitrust #lawsuit against property management software vendor #RealPage, which is accused of unlawful algorithmic rent-fixing, to include six of the largest US #landlords while also proposing a settlement to resolve the case against one of the defendants.

  4. > “I think the best way to combat corporate #landlords is to make their model less profitable,” Nagy said. She said stronger tenant protections and rent stabilization laws are ways to achieve that. #Tenants may also withhold #rent when repairs aren’t being made. And more tenants are speaking directly to pension funds or universities that pool their money into hedge funds and real estate investment trusts to get a profit.

  5. @samuraikid
During the past year it is said that #BillGates, has become the biggest #landlord, at least in terms of #agricultural land.

Yes, #BigTech, are a massive problem. It seems they are all #diversify into complementary industries and building up #oligarchic structures. For example, #Amazon and #Google have their fingers in as many, if not more, insidious pies than #Microsoft.
