Is #English your native language, as it is mine? #Polish and #Czech are both #Slavic languages, and I've found Czech way more challenging than the other languages I've dabbled with (#Spanish and #French, both of which are #Romance languages, and seem to have a lot in common with English in terms of their #grammar, #SentenceStructure, and largely #Latin-based lexicons).

Of course, English is primarily a #Germanic language, so the reasons why Romance languages seem easier to me than Slavic languages are probably best explained by someone who knows a lot more about #Linguistics, #LanguageHistory, and #ProtoIndoEuropean.

  4. Finally got my new Raspberry Pi 5 installed in its black aluminum Argon40 ONE V3 M.2 NVME PCIe case with a 4TB SSD. This thing is gonna be my new @openmediavault, @homeassistant, @portainerio, @jellyfin, and PiHole server, all rolled into a tiny little package roughly the size of a couple decks of playing cards.

  5. To #PaulWiltshire and the rest of the #CSuite at #Songtradr: Your most valuable assets are not your balance sheet, bank accounts, brand recognition, market share, intellectual property, or even your reputation among artists and fans. No, your most valuable assets are your people. Your organization's entire reputation, value proposition, and prospects for future success are inextricably linked to the people who build, run, and maintain your platform. You literally cannot do anything of value without them. If you cannot find a way to retain your organization's most valuable assets (your people), then you shouldn't be running any organization at all, let alone the best music platform in the world. So, either sign the deal with #BandcampUnited, or step down and let someone take over who actually understands how this business works.

TL;DR: Quit screwing around, just sign the deal with #Bandcamp United, and let your organization's most valuable assets get back to doing what they do best.

  6. I've been a #musician for 25 years and a #MusicProducer for 13 years, with several EPs published exclusively on #Bandcamp under my stage name, @blendrix. I'm also a successful #BusinessIntelligence and #DataAnalyst with a BA in #HumanResourcesManagement and certificates in #ConflictNegotiation and #Entrepreneurship. With my unique combination of education and real-world experience as both a business professional and musician, I understand both sides of the #BandcampUnited / #Songtradr situation quite well, so here's my take:

Bandcamp is the best music platform in the world, for both artists and fans, and there's a very good reason for that: Bandcamp has always employed the very best people. Without all of the hardworking people who built it from the ground up, Bandcamp would be just another music retailer website, one among many thousands of utterly forgettable commercial ventures exploiting the labor of artists and and selling little pieces of their souls for pennies of profit.

I really don't understand why so many #DataProfessionals refuse to #MaskInPublic.

These are people whose entire careers are built on the assertion that every decision should be #DataDriven. Meanwhile, the data very clearly indicates that #CovidIsNotOver, that #LongCovid can result in long-term or permanent disability, and that masking drastically reduces the likelihood of infection.

Where's the disconnect? Don't they feel like hypocrites, urging their business stakeholders to #TrustTheData while refusing to do so themselves?

  8. I'm volunteering at CoderDojo today, and a kid asked me if there's a Python library for everything.

I said, "Yep! I bet there's even a Python library for doing your taxes."

The kid pulled up a search, and this link was the first result. What a time to be alive!

Know what's even more depressing than working from home? Death, disease, war, famine, and civil unrest, all caused by climate change. And if you think your allergies are bad now, just wait until climate change really starts kicking into high gear.

At this point, I think we all need to be willing to sacrifice a little of our own personal comfort in order to prevent the literal apocalypse. If that means most office workers won't have as many opportunities to socialize, and they feel a little lonely as a result, I'm sorry, but that's a 100% acceptable tradeoff in my opinion.

If some folks really need that social interaction in order to stay sane, I would suggest they join a local #BookClub or #CyclingClub, start volunteering with #HumanRightsCampaign, #HabitatForHumanity, etc. There are plenty of other (arguably better) ways to get your physical activity and social time besides commuting by car to work in an office.

    > Yes, but Mick has more wrinkles. 😀

Those are "crow's feet," a.k.a. "smile lines," a.k.a. "marks left on the skin by a long, fulfilling life brimming with hearty laughter, warm friendships, and general merriment."

So yeah, of course Mick has more of those than Mitch does.

Had a moment similar to this recently with one of my kitties: #AleisterMeowley the #DevonRex.

The camera flash makes him much more visible than he actually was. The back of that closet is so dark, the only way I could tell he was back there was because I could see his glowing eyes.

  17. Hey Data/UIUX folks, how do you handle preferred pronouns on an input form that feeds into a database? Obviously, a drop-down menu is too limited, but free-form text input is too unruly. RegEx validation of some kind, perhaps?
