Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Thursday morning through the Moroccan Gate under heavy Israeli police cover, performing rituals inside its courtyards.
The incursions came ahead of what Israelis mark as
"Jerusalem Day" and were described as "compensatory raids" due to the expected closure of the site to settlers on Friday.
Israeli forces also imposed restrictions on Palestinian Muslim worshippers entering their mosque, while far-right groups and Israeli officials called for larger incursions and the raising of Israeli flags inside the compound.
