Some years ago, I had a massive problem with #aminopyralid in communal green waste compost.
This herbicide is NOT targeting grasses. So it's used for lawns(sic!) and for grains. Therefore straw is often contaminated. Only direct contact to soil bacteria should reduce the concentration. A pile will keep it for months/years.
Legumes are specially susceptible to it. Try some peas in it. If they develop normally, the stuff could be ok. Curly leafs, stunted growth? Leave it. -

Useful information I gleaned from John Kempf’s brilliant Regenerative Agriculture podcast with Harriet Mella https://regenerativeagriculturepodcast.com/episode-71-harriet-mella was the best uptake for foliar feed (from sap analysis) is the week before the full moon. The least advantageous time is the week of the new moon.
I dabble in a bit of #RegenAg #KNF, #permaculture, #biodynamics.
When Spring arrives I’ll be making some IMO2 in the fridge into IMO3 with bran & then IMO4 with soil.

While the police arrest just stop oil protesters, I've just spoken to my sister who lives on the edge of the Campsies near Glasgow. There is a 5 mile wide wildfire going on right now, but you wouldn't known it from the usual news sources.

Good morning. Picked the first of the wild garlic yesterday. Lucky to have a patch on our allotment site. I only take a few leaves when they are young, as I don't like the taste of the older leaves. Another showery day here, with strong winds expected tomorrow. The tatties will not be planted until April at this rate.

The IPCC report is grim. While we all know that phasing out fossil fuels is paramount, in my small sphere I take heart that people I know, who suddenly took up gardening during the first lockdown, by working with the earth and the weather, have become a lot more aware of the effects of climate change. Although lots of people are too afraid to voice their concern, I believe a quiet revolution is taking place. I hope this translates to better choices at elections.

Thanks to a gift of Ball and Morris field guide to Britain's Hoverflies, I'm fairly confident that this is Episyrphus balteatus. Yes, it's the most common hoverfly but I'm chuffed to ID it. Common name, the Marmalade Fly. July22. My allotment.
