@rlcw Hallo Rebecca

Unfortunately, the linked PDFs are just in German, but the summary is roughly:
- use dwarf/bush beans Phaseolus
vulgaris for testing
- peas and tomatoes work, too
- it takes about 3 weeks to get results in favourable growing conditions
- soy beans are susceptible to aminopyralid in manures even 23 month after application to the field

@OxgardenZ The herbicide is #aminopyralid (and its relatives). Really nasty stuff. A German agricultural lab did some tests with the stuff and found, it will stun growth of especially legumes or solanaceae in concentrations below the limit detectable in labs.
We hardly have problems with slugs - any more. With maturity of our garden as an ecosystem the problem disappeared. I reckon the pond helped. -
@Hesperalis
Some years ago, I had a massive problem with #aminopyralid in communal green waste compost.
This herbicide does NOT target grasses. So it's used for lawns(sic!) and for grains. Therefore straw is often contaminated. Only direct contact to soil bacteria should reduce the concentration. A pile will keep it for months/years.
Legumes are specially susceptible to it. Try some peas in it. If they develop normally, the stuff could be ok. Curly leafs, stunted growth? Leave it.
