Great #Evol2023 talk by Melanie Duc Bo Massey of https://www.diversityofnature.com/ as a co-winner (with Suchinta Arif) of IDEA award.

One cool point: doing outreach like this has benefits to the people leading it: skills in grant writing, advertising, communication, and more. Not the reason they did it, but I think it's an additional argument to use on colleagues or mentors who push back on work on outreach, DEI, and similar.

Teaching is a standard part of grad school, and funded, but organizing outreach programs is usually "extra", what if there was a substantial chunk of funds for it, at the University level? (next: how do we get those funds) #Evol2023

IDEA award winner Melanie Duc Bo Massey on running an amazing outreach program (Diversity in Nature) while in grad school: a theme is building and finding community. #Evol2023

I'm impressed by both the rapid implementation and the technical quality of the live speech-to-text now for talks at #Evol2023
