Well, the Owlbear is done for the night. Watched some Space 1999, and now I'm confused and exhausted. Which is a pretty normal result of watching that show, actually.
So it's no secret that The Owlbear is a horror fan. I dig movies, books, fiction podcasts, analog horror stuff, and games in the genres. But let's be honest, cubs and owllettes, a lot of them are pretty mid in quality.
But every once in a while you run into something special. Like World of Horror.
World of Horror is a 1 bit (that is, two color pixel art) narrative horror game with roguelike elements, turn based combat, and a sense of creeping existential dread that needs to be experienced by more people.
Great art, creepy #chiptune soundtrack, and Great Old Ones aplenty. Available on several platforms, and definitely worth the price.
As for me? I'm spent. Gonna 🪚 some logs now. Goodnight, fam. Take care of each other, be kind, and drink water.

Did anyone play World of Horror? The presentation and UI is so cool, but all the rest…💀
I wish it had been a regular game (not a roguelike) with some build up and dialogue. Instead you walk around and randomly meet monsters or spirits, and it seems arbitrary when you lose health or sanity from exploring.
You have stats and the game makes checks, but it’s usually unclear which option triggers what check. Often you don’t even have an option, because you’re missing a specific item. There are a lot of non sequiturs and disconnected things happening. Some of it is nice and flavorful, but nothing has any real weight to it.
I tried several times to get into it but bounced off every time 🥲 what a pity

My character was on the verge of losing her sanity for nearly the whole game so I kept having to rest to regain Reason, which wasted too much time and allowed the Old God to break free...
