I like the atmosphere of the game and themes of its story. Revenge, sacrifice, identity, bigotry.
A lot of the conflict in this game is caused by the two sides not understanding each other. Subsequent playthroughs recontextualize past events by allowing you to see and hear the other side's perspective.
I played Automata before, so I know it takes these themes even further, explicitly referencing many schools of philosophy. I still like Replicant for what it is.

CW: Nier Replicant and Automata Route Structure
In theory, I think Replicant did the contrast of how it portrays the Shades between the 2 routes a lot better than Automata. Except for ~2 Shades all others are really just portrayed as mindless monsters in the first route and then shows their true side in the 2nd.
Much better than Automata's "Oh boy, those robots sure are thoughtless monster *wink* *wink*".
But you still see it coming if you played Automata first sadly.

Welp, I learned my lesson that 'backup to #YouTube' isn't backup... lmao. My YT channel is literally just gameplay videos, one of em today was flagged as 'against their policy', and my channel was given a warning - which was relatively harmless (no implications).
I was given the choice to appeal tho, so I did - and what I said was essentially, "I'm sorry, I didn't know they have such policy and the gameplay was uploaded as private anyway, and I'm fine if it has to be removed", I was only uploading these gameplay recordings privately as backups/archives after all.
Aaaanyway, soon after they rejected my appeal, and then prolly discover in their review that there are literally other gameplay videos on my channel that were against their policy as well, soooo they removed my channel entirely 🤠 Again, idrc for my channel, since these full gameplay recordings and clips are mostly private anyway - but welp I just lost all of my vids in one swoop, within a couple of hours.
That includes my ongoing #Spirittea and #TOTK gameplay, my preeeecious #NierAutomata and #NierReplicant recordings, my #StardewValley gameplay spanning years and years and years, etc. Freaking RIP. -

Looking at Nier Automata's and Replicant's combat (on the hardest difficulty) they kinda fix the other's biggest problem.
Automtata has very short fights, but you die quickly which fits it's simply combat. But it often has terrible checkpoints.
Replicant always has checkpoints before each boss, but the fights take way too much time while also being simple, and you get little damage from attacks.

I can't stop thinking about this, (Young) #Nier writing his sister, #Yonah's name on the sand as one of his idle animations when he's at the beach, since I first discovered it a while ago.
Funny thing about Nier is, I didn't know going into it (playing #NierReplicant) that his Adult self would have the voice of #YusaKoji, my fav seiyu of all time, and while it's an absolute treat to listen to him in an MC role for the first time - I end up missing so much his Young voice that I've grown attached to, by #OkamotoNobuhiko.
And so I started noticing his voice elsewhere since, including in #HeikeMonogatari - which coincidentally also had the voice of #Kaine, #TanakaAtsuko.

I had high expectations of #Yatagarasu and yet it exceeded them all. I never had the opportunity to describe this about an #anime, but the first "arc"/half was full of (super intriguing, not stressful) DRAMA - which I totally didn't expect. I almost feel like it's completely safe/valid to recommend the first ~13 episodes to drama lovers that weren't particularly into/familiar with anime.
Subsequent episodes then continued to expand the lore, world building of the anime and I just couldn't stop simping for the whole idea/lore of the world - last I had this reaction was for #AttackOnTitan, specifically in the very early seasons when Titans and Paradis were more interesting/relevant in the story.
The main character also absolutely passed my vibe check, in flying colours particularly bcos of how unique I found his character is compared to any other MCs (for me). Excellent choice of cast too in the seiyu department, particularly the MC, Prince, and his brother - it's also really nice to recognise Kaine's (from #NierReplicant) voice as the Empress, though it's sad to know that if the anime continues, this voice will almost definitely be changed seeing that Tanaka Atsuko has passed :(
I could go on and on about this anime, and it's probably way too early to call it (at least, one of) my absolute fav after just 20 episodes, but it's so tempting bcos it's THAT good. -
I think it's only right that after neglecting #NierReplicant for so long, and I've finally committed to complete it and making good progress so far (finishing Route C), that afterwards I should continue my #TOTK playthrough and finish that first before moving to other games... no matter how tempting it is to start playing #MetalGearRisingRevengeance - cos I miss #PlatinumGames games that much (namely, #NierAutomata).
TOTK is just SO daunting to finish, #BOTW had a lot of freedom and took a while for me to finish it in a satisfying way, but TOTK is just... a whole different level that it's actually insanely intimidating to even thought of finishing, without missing anything. I almost never go thru the main quest line whenever I play TOTK cos there's just so much to do and I'm the type to leave the "main course" for last lol. I'm not even gonna talk about #EldenRing - that one I feel I've to just restart from scratch despite having progressed a fair bit, simply bcos I know I've prolly only completed less than a quarter of it, and I already forgot how to play it.
I loved Elden Ring, it was my first #FromSoftware and Souls-like game in general and there's something satisfying about the game despite it feeling so gloomy and sorrowful at times - the only thing I don't quite like abt it is how "slow" you move, never been a big fan of games where controlling your character feels like controlling a tank (i.e. #MonsterHunter games). -

Holy crap the "The Little Maid" #NierReplicant achievement is impossible to get on Route B. I'm almost certain it'd be so much easier to achieve if I had thought of attempting it in Route A, but I wasn't aware of that achievement then. I'm almost certain enemies/bosses are somewhat beefier in Route B, which makes it tougher to achieve. I heard attempting this in Route C would be easier for some spoilery reason, but I'd rather finish this in Route B so I could enjoy Route C onwards without sweating/cheesing thru boss fights and skipping cutscenes.

Decided to save my game, harvest the Lunar Tear for the achievement, then reloaded my save so I could wait for the flower to die to harvest its seeds. Now I'm one of the 8% of (#Steam) players with the #NierReplicant "Legendary Gardener" badge :blobfoxcat:

I've been holding off on continuing my #NierReplicant playthrough just bcos I wanted to complete this one side-quest that requires Pink Moonflower seeds before progressing.
Pink Moonflowers requires breeding Blue + Gold -> Indigo Moonflowers (~20% chance), Red + Gold -> Peach Moonflowers (~20% chance), then Indigo + Peach -> Pink Moonflowers (~5% chance) and waiting for them to die so we could harvest their seeds. While waiting for this batch, I had also started (what I thought would be) the most painful journey of breeding a Lunar Tear by breeding both Pink and Peach Moonflowers - which only has a ~1-2% success rate.
Flower breeding in Replicant occurs in real time so I'd just open the game every ~24-48 hours to check on them and GOSH I GOT LUNAR TEAR FROM MY FIRST TRY!!! Now I'm sort of panicking on what to do - the achievement is to harvest the Lunar Tear, but I was thinking to let it die so I'd get its seeds (presumably??) AND THEN plant them so I could have an "endless" supply of Lunar Tears in the future without going thru some RNG pain waiting to get one again from breeding.
I'd have to check on this but WOW I GOT LUNAR TEAR!!! without waiting for months or years of waiting - I don't cheat by advancing my system clock either cos that'd be a pain to do on a primary PC and not a for-games-only console. -
One of my favourite songs rn in #NierReplicant are Kaine's theme, as well as Songs of the Ancients - so happy to have found the one who sung them! Her name is Emi Evans.

#NierReplicant music fucking slaps so hard, it gives me so much emotion for an otherwise emotionless person 😭
It's also why I LOVED and ENJOYED #NierAutomata so much. The lore, music, characters are all just incredibly moving and impactful - plus the really, outstandingly smooth gameplay (smooth as in combat and even something as simple as movement all feels like one beautiful intuitive, dancing motion) just makes their games so perfect.
The only critic I have for Replicant is just how extremely grindy the side quests are, I never experienced that with Automata where every quests and side quests feel so rewarding - but I don't mind it, I'm loving every moment spent prolonging my hours playing the game cos once I'm done with Replicant, I've no other #Nier games to play until they release a new one :')
As far as I'm aware, prior to these games they also have the #Drakengard series which I think is somewhat related?? but idk how playable they'd be for me cos I generally don't have a good time playing old games due to how clunky they tend feel for modern standards (except for #HideoKojima games somehow???). I tried playing the first Drakengard on PS2, I think, and gosh I was suffering thruout the entire intro to even consider continuing that playthrough.

ive just went past the timejump (not a spoiler rite? literally the poster of the game) and i know ive always loved smol Nier's seiyuu (Okamoto Nobuhiko) BUT TO DISCOVER MY LITERAL TOP NO 1 SEIYUU OF ALL TIME (not gonna spoil who lol) voices adult Nier is INSANE!!!!!!!
I legit gasped the moment he opened his mouth and started talking - I never knew this was coming!!! but welp, I've to hold my excitement for a bit as I had to go back to my previous save, as that timejump has made it impossible to complete one sidequest I was still in progress of (farming related, sigh). Idt it's important, but considering I had 100%-ed #NierAutomata, I might as well do the same for #NierReplicant.
