At #PAXEast, my kid had a lot of fun at the arcade area. We worked out a handicap system for Street Fighter Alpha 2: they got to take me down to 40% of my health bar at the start of the round, and then it seemed mostly fair. And they had a great time beating up Dad!
This week, I used that as an excuse to order something for my Gamecube collection: Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO. I found the cheapest Ebay listing that included a manual, and it arrived in today's post.

I had a great time at #PaxEast on Friday. I spent the rest of the weekend regretting not going for another day. It’s a little weird to spend $70 to play a board game with your friends, but the atmosphere was fun, and there was a lot to look at. I played five games on Friday: Get Baked, Photosynthesis, Sagrada, Daybreak, and Moon Colony Bloodbath. I enjoyed them all, more or less. But nothing I felt like rushing out and buying. I resisted the temptation to buy Sagrada at a good price at the show.

My finds at Pax East: a gorgeous translucent red PS1 controller; Alien Vs Predator: Extinction for PS2; and Unreal Tournament for PS2.
The original UT is one of my favorite games of all time. I grew up playing it on my Pentium II Gateway tower. Curious to see what it's like on a console. It supports up to 4 players.

I had a sad impression from my two days at #PAXEast 2026: it shrunk.
Fewer creators and developers, fewer of the biggest ones, fewer attendees, and far fewer developers from outside the United States. I know that it's a terrible and unsafe time to be visiting the United States; foreign developers are doing the right thing and prioritizing their safety.
But that means I see less of what the world is making, my kids see less, and don't get to mix with our peers from everywhere else.
