#websitebuilding — Public Fediverse posts

Oh no! 😱 A self-proclaimed scientist turned software developer is pleading for mercy because they let AI do the heavy lifting and build their website's engine. 🙄 Don't worry, dear reader—none of the riveting content was AI-generated; just the tedious parts that nobody cares about anyway. 😂🔧

The Year that I would Like to Relive

Small win of the day: figured out how to add a light / dark mode toggle for the #Publii CMS and static site generator! This is a feature that has been requested many times in the community forums, and a solution now exists! Just a few tweaks right inside the app!

oh, well, that explains my confusion... was looking at Liquid.js's _API_ docs, not their tags docs. I mean, "api" sure seems like it SHOULD be the interface of how to use it, but... lulz? >.<

me: why does this not tell me how to make a for loop?!?! https://liquidjs.com/api/classes/ForTag.html
my buddy: oh, oh dear...
me: oh. heh. the docs aren't labelled api, are they...
https://liquidjs.com/tags/for.html looks MUCH more like what i was looking for!

I'm taking a course on website design because it's been about twenty years since I last made a website. Which author websites do you particularly like? I'm looking for inspiration. #WritingCommunity #WebsiteBuilding

While I built my first site in Dreamweaver years ago, I've since then basically been building sites in WordPress. While I'm used to it, I'm seeing some good reasons to consider other ways to build sites.

If you use other CMS/platforms, what's your favorite?

Following on from yesterday's post, here's a blog post about how I build websites in 2025. I'm completely open to being told where I'm getting it wrong :-)

…I’ll also add to the list:

•  Make a set of  “hero images” you can use in your blog posts to make text-heavy articles look interesting.
• Play around with the og:image (sometimes called the “featured image or twitter card”) for your posts. Create a default one for when there’s no images in your posts so they can still get that “rich web link” treatment on other sites.

One of my favourite things to do in my free time is to tinker with this website. Indeed, this website is the culmination of years of tinkering. I have added features like coffee shop maps that I can share with friends, a way for me to share my bio in two languages, a sitemap.xml file to help search …

Need some advice from the #webdev folks

I’ve made a linktree style #website with Hugo & I was wondering what the best way to host it is:

1. Subdomain of my main domain - links.akashgoswami.com

2. As a page on my main domain - akashgoswami.com/links

3. Using a shorter second domain I have - akash.lol

Liebe #BahnBubble,

Ich brauche praktische #Unterstützung, also #Mitarbeit.

Also:

I really hope Chris doesn’t mind me borrowing literally 90% of his layout, formatting and general overall aesthetic from Boffo Socko when I’m ready to smooth out the edges of my site here.
They way it looks and how information is presented is just what you’d expect of a person who is rather efficient at capturing and categorizing information.

Newly added to the Trade-Free Directory:

WordPress

WordPress (WordPress.org) is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) written in PHP and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system, referred to within WordPress as Themes.
