  1. #VisualStudioCode, when you move the window from one monitor to the other with Win-Key+Direction Key, then minimize, and restore the window, it'll come up on the monitor it moved away from, not the one it got minimized on.

  2. Today I was working with some ADMX files (yep...) in #VisualStudioCode, but they lacked syntax highlighting.

Initially, I thought I would need an extension for this, but (thankfully) I was wrong. These files are basically XMLs, and highlighting for XML is available.

  3. Visual Studio Code 1.129 brings a modern UI

Visual Studio Code has received a new version, v1.129, that brings an experimental modern UI. It is not enabled by default, but you can now give it a try. This modern UI is an attempt at modernizing the Visual Studio Code user interface to match the design of the Agents window.

The Agents window has obtained a user interface modernization a few updates ago that aligns with the design of both Visual Studio 2026 and Windows 11, to make the experience feel more native and consistent. This consistency is now available throughout the entire Visual Studio Code UI as part of an experimental setting.

Here’s a comparison picture you can refer to, so that you can compare between the two experiences:

To enable the new user interface, follow these steps:

    1. Go to File > Preferences > Settings, or press CTRL + Comma together
    2. Search for either “modern” or “workbench.experimental.modernUI
    3. Check the checkbox that is titled Workbench > Experimental: Modern UI

If everything goes well in the next few Visual Studio Code updates, the setting will be enabled by default and will no longer be experimental. In case you are experiencing issues caused by the new user interface, you can revert to the old user interface by turning off the checkbox.

  4. I use Visual Studio Code in one project, mainly because it's a mix of scripts and various languages. The thinking was that it can handle many languages well.

Nope. It's a clusterfuck when it comes to actually knowing absolutely anything about the languages or my code base. Auto completion never surfaces relevant stuff, rarely even variables declared one line above or function parameters. It's like coding with Emacs in 1995, except Emacs was better at the actual editing.

  7. Trying to remember the last time that Visual Studio Code updated and I went "that's a useful feature" or "I'm glad they've fixed that" 😐

It's all GenAI bullshit. I could just never update again and I literally wouldn't be missing ANYTHING!
