  6. Self-hosted Git in 2026: Forgejo, Gitea or SourceHut?

I value open-source governance, but I also care about polish, UX, Actions, OpenTofu state, security, and long-term maintenance.

Which would you choose for a small/private team, and why?

  8. After about 3 hours, I'm finally done migrating all Catacomb projects over from GitHub to SourceHut:

    sr.ht/~undeadleech/catacomb

I was surprised to realize that GitHub did not automatically subscribe me to many of my own projects, finding some open issues in the process.

Didn't think it was going to take this long, but there's been a lot of projects piling up. If someone finds some old GitHub links, please let me know.

  13. Sigh. I am sad SourceHut keeps getting attacked. I do enjoy using them as my main Git repo/CI tool. Hope the team can fix the DDoS soon.

  18. @technomancy that said, as much as I enjoy using #sourcehut builds, one cons, especially for larger projects is that they don't really support workflows that fan out sub jobs

  19. I'm joining the folk who #LeaveGitHub for alternative forges. I admit to mostly using it as an offsite backup service but I sometimes contribute. What are the viable new homes? I'm US based, long retired and a hobbyist, solo developer who doesn't mind paying reasonable fees for access.

    Does anyone have recommendations or warnings re #GitLab #BitBucket #Codeberg #Sourcehut ?

Is there a #fossil SCM forge out there?

  29. I love #Sourcehut. Sad to see them under coordinated prolonged DDoS attack. Infuriating.

Reminder to eat your vegetables, back up your data, and mirror your repos to #Codeberg and bare repos on your own cheap VPS somewhere

But definitely not GitHub booooo BOOOOOO

  30. Kind reminder that our git repository is distributed among three different sites, all in sync:

    - git.dillo-browser.org/dillo
    - codeberg.org/dillo/dillo
    - git.sr.ht/~dillo/dillo

Currently is fighting a DDoS and the service is spotty: status.sr.ht/issues/2026-04-06

This is precisely why we have chosen a replicated set of git servers.

PS. #SourceHut is still not back up. 😓

  36. My blog #BurgeonLab relies on #SourceHut Git and Builds. They’ve been down and at first I couldn’t deploy my site to my static host, #Bunnynet.
