I'm actually stunned that it's the year 2025, and #OmekaS is still such a mess in its user experience and software architecture, and there is no meaningful alternative for it.

All I want is an #RDF triplestore with a user interface that allows basic input types, simple rest API for front end apps to consume, some basic access controls, plugin extensibility, and basic vocabularies preinstalled (dc, foaf, schema.org).

Wallahi it's not that difficult to implement.

Yesterday I configured two VMs inside #proxmox to run some museums specific software. Learned some new stuff in this great software, i.e. store the backups in a NFS share on a second machine.
First is #PartDB as inventory software for our whole stuff including the library like books and software. And second is #Omeka for additional information about the machines in our exhibition.
It looks like we'll have a long way to go to get our entire inventory in order.

I have no money so I offer 2 hours of #Python #CreativeCoding lessons/mentoring if someone can help me fix an #Omeka "Classic" site I set up in 2019 for my master's degree, and it broke soon after.

(There is another #PHP tool I also managed to f-up #TemaTres i wish I could fix...)

For the record, I also offer paid Python Creative Coding lessons/mentoring :)

Aujourd'hui ont lieu les journées annuelles #omeka organisées par l'association francophone des usagers d'Omeka, un logiciel libre de bibliothèque numérique, et cela remplit un plein amphi, ça fait plaisir. 15 ans après son lancement le logiciel est devenu une solution mature pour plein de cas d'usages.

On 9 November 2023, the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (#ZMO) will officially launch the "Islam #WestAfrica Collection" (https://islam.zmo.de/s/westafrica/) in Berlin. This project, which I’m directing, is a collaborative, #openaccess digital #database that currently contains over 5,000 archival documents, newspaper articles, Islamic publications of various kinds, audio and video recordings, photographs, and references on #Islam and #Muslims in #BurkinaFaso, #Benin, #Niger, #Nigeria, #Togo and #Cotedivoire.

Far from being the end of a project, this is just the beginning, as the database will continue to grow and will lay the groundwork for future collaborations with other scholars and institutes as more countries may be added.

Mauro Nobili (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA), Issouf Binaté (Université Alassane Ouattara, Côte d'Ivoire) and Kai Kresse (ZMO) will comment on the project.

🧵 3/ I got to assist a researcher from #History w/ their database. A recurring issue we face at the University Library and the Digital Scholarship Center is research databases that have lost technical and developer support. In this case, the data were retrieved from the original database but not the data model, at least not in an easy-to-reconstruct way. There are plans to make the data available via an #Omeka instance here at the library. #ResearchSupportPartnershipUiO

Long shot but: Has anyone collected data in Airtable and then ingested into Omeka S?

We will be experimenting with this soonish and I am curious what scripts look like if other people have made them. Debating going from Airtable API -> CSV -> Omeka S import or trying to post directly to the Omeka S API item by item
