  1. Intrusive thought:

    application/LD+YAML (YAML Linked Data) isn’t something to sneer at, it’s bringing terseness to JSON-LD the way that Turtle tamed the XML serialization.

    (I have always found writing configs in YAML impossible and have been a detractor, maybe I would suffer less with YAML-LD.) #linkeddata #rdf

  2. A useful open resource for Linked Data and urban research: RTSKG provides an ontology, RDF data for New York and Chicago, persistent identifiers, provenance metadata and example SPARQL queries. Data are CC BY SA 4.0 and code is Apache 2.0. A concrete teaching and reuse case for knowledge graphs.

  3. Contributing to open Knowledge isn’t just about adding data to Wikidata. It’s also about building and using tools that make structured knowledge easier to create, explore, and reuse. Here are some of the amazing tools showcased at Wikimania.

  5. Missed the "Bridging Institutions, Wikidata & Generative AI" talk at Wikimania Paris?

    Key Takeaways:
    🏛️ GLAMs often back open access (but want AI safeguards) — attribution, context, reciprocity
    🔗 An uploads alone doesn't add value. Data needs curation & Wikipedia/Commons sitelinks
    🗃️ Institutions can hold data in Wikibase; Wikidata can connect it
    🤖 Challenge: open knowledge + sustainable infrastructure

  7. When you think of OHM, do you think of a blank map? There’s a ton of hidden coverage (and some mistakes too), but you have to find it amid the vastness of time and space. @mxn takes you on a tour of the sprawling collection of tools for more efficiently analyzing our open historical map data and using it in your own projects.

  8. #KDAI2026 lecture no 11. This time it's interrogation tactics: FILTER, REGEX, OPTIONAL, UNION, negation, BIND, and GROUP BY aggregates in SPARQL.

    Then a bounty comparison: DBpedia (1.32B triples, built from Wikipedia infoboxes) vs Wikidata (17.6B triples, ~29K editors)

    Closing out with OWL: Description Logic SROIQ(D), etc.

  10. From raw statements to sound inference. This week's #KDAI2026 session works through the RDF stack top to bottom:
    ▸RDF — typed literals, blank nodes, and Turtle
    ▸RDFS — classes, domains & ranges, subClassOf hierarchies, model-theoretic semantics, reification & RDF*
    ▸SPARQL — first steps

    The triple is the message. 📡

    Al deze informatie kan ook via een SPARQL-endpoint benaderd worden. En #WikiData federeert sinds kort met het TOOI SPARQL-endpoint.

  15. The new #KDAI2026 lecture is out. How to get from a sentence to something a machine can actually reason?

    The greenhouse effect was discovered by Fourier, explained by Eunice Newton Foote. 3 words, 1 triple: subject, predicate, object. Stack enough of them and you get a graph. Add an ontology and the machine starts to infer.

  16. #rdf #linkeddata #LOD #datamodel
    {3/n} But I really want something in the specs that states this requirement in a more hard and fast way and I'm not finding it. For example, RDF 1.1 Concepts and Abstract Syntax > 3.1 Triples doesn't come out and provide any req's for the predicate other than that it is an IRI.
    I thought that perhaps The RDF Concepts Vocabulary (RDF namespace) properties for reifying triples might help, but -- to my surprise -- rdf:predicate has rdfs:range rdfs:Resource -- I expected this to be rdf:Property.
    Thus, I'm not currently coming up with anything from the specs (thus, looking for wisdom -- entirely possible and in fact dependable that I am missing things), but rather, only what seems like convention.

  17. #rdf #linkeddata #LOD #datamodel

    { 1/n } Reviewing an RDF metadata application profile, came across an IRI used as a predicate in metadata description set triples, looked at modelling from the source:

    ```Turtle
    <ebu.ch/metadata/ontologies/ebu> a rdfs:Class ;
    rdfs:label "Content alert"@en ;
    rdfs:comment "To provide information about a particular type of content potentially sensitive."@en ;
    rdfs:subClassOf <ebu.ch/metadata/ontologies/ebu> .
    ```

    Said something like "Oh, well, that's a class, we can't use that as a property, we'll want to change that."
    Was asked the question "Why can't we use that IRI as a property?"
    The fact that you can't use a resource that is an instance of rdfs:Class as a predicate in an RDF triple -- or, at least, you shouldn't -- seemed self-evident to me. But I found I was somewhat at a loss to come up with what I consider a solid response about why this is the case based in RDF specs.
    Thus, here I am looking for wisdom on the internet.
    To say a bit more...

    Type=oneshot

    Werkt jouw #overheidsorganisatie met #begrippenlijsten, #linkeddata of allebei? Vul onze enquête in (uiterlijk 6 juli). Dit kost je maar een paar minuten.

    Jouw inzichten helpen ons om een beter beeld krijgen van het gebruik publiceren van begrippenlijsten via linked data bij overheden, in het bijzonder.

  22. Linked Data connections aren't always explicit triples. Sometimes the link is spatial: things that simply exist near each other.

    LDView now shows "nearby" entities - geolocated subjects that are indirectly linked to the one you're viewing.

    Example: data.digitopia.nl/uri:http://v
    Scroll down to “Nearby” and explore the neighbourhood.

    #LinkedData #GeoSPARQL #LDView

  23. Incoming links are a revealing way to explore a Linked Data dataset — but they vanish silently when the linking subject is a blank node.

    LDView now walks up the graph (up to 2 hops) to find the real subject.

    Example: data.digitopia.nl/uri:http://d
    Before: 0 incoming links. After: the full picture of where an entity appears in the dataset.

  24. @steve @eblu

    There are a couple of projects that explore #ActivityPub in its intended #LinkedData format. Plain JSON is allowed, but the AP's primary notation is using #JSONLD. I think there is a slight uptick in interest for this approach again, coming along with the opportunity to implement the Social API (client-to-server) as intended.

    What I really like is that ecosystem tools which aim to ease #fediverse solution development, are gaining an interest. Most notably here is #Fedify imho, who recently received #NLnet funding to build Fedify Studio development platform..
