Tropy seems amazing for keeping track of all my academic images. I have tons of maps, figures, site plans, and so forth.

I'm just getting started with it (as of yesterday). (I think the people behind Zotero made this stuff. Seriously cool.)

With that said, the lack of titles for items in the gallery view is a bummer and slows my down a lot.

A bit of a grab for a straw: We have had to assume responsibility for a large legacy digitization project the only artifacts of which that are available to us are terabytes of images - without manifests, metadata, meaningful folder or file names, (lots of files seem to be duplicates or triples, but even without these it will be thousands of files and terabytes of storage). EDIT: It should all be scan images of historical (modern) handwritten documents from two or three archives.

I'm looking for tools that could help us sort the image files, e.g. by file metadata, rudimentary information from folder/file names, and easy browsing and tagging files.

Perhaps #Tropy - I have long wanted to learn about it, is this a good opportunity to do so?

I had a coordinating & getting-to-know meeting to set up some presentations and show-and-tell sessions for the Depts. #DigitalMeetup that happens every #Tuesday. I offered to do short sessions on #TaDiRAH, #Transkribus, #Tropy and #Tesseract during the fall. I'll use the 1678 #Danish translation of the #EthicaComplementoria as an example for #AutomatedTextRecognition of C17th books!

#Tropy j'avais pas insisté mais c'est une mise à jour majeure (sur la manière de partager les projets notamment). Les nouveaux projets, par défauts, copient les photos dans le dossier du projet (attention aux doublons).

@whanley @natalie @dh I would second second that #Tropy is a good tool for this. You can add metadata and tags to selections within documents.

One tip: Make sure that when you import the manuscript into Tropy in PDF form that you set the default density so that the document is legible--at least 144 ppi. To change this setting, go to Tropy>Preferences and select Settings.

@natalie @dh As a general purpose annotation tool for a multipage manuscript, #tropy is pretty good. (It's even better if you have multiple multipage manuscripts in the same project.) A combination of annotation boxes and controlled tag vocabulary could work well for you. https://tropy.org/

#tropy users...did you first start using Tropy at the beginning of a new project, or did you first adopt it during a project in progress? What was your experience switching from your previous workflow to Tropy?

I'm trying to find out more about our users, but also want to keep the conversation rolling about how Tropy can help researchers with their projects.
