  1. I think I'm in my ambient phase. I recorded some noise to a cassette tape and I kinda like it.

  2. My first day participating in #weekofpatching (day 2). I'm quite rusty so opted for something similar using vcv rack with the #monome grid sequencer, and an analog video synth for visuals.

I filmed a whole 10-minute performance but I'm gonna have to edit and retroactively post about the process on my blog as I'm off to a gig!

  3. Here’s a photo of my bed, which has a Shark Turbo Blade Fan at the foot, keeping me somewhat cool, and a Norns Shield and Monome Grid, running the O-O-O script, chilling me out! #ElectronicMusic #AmbientMusic #Norns #NornsShield #Monome #MonomeGrid

  4. monome at twenty: they’ve assembled a wonderful retrospective of making, sharing, and being. two decades of inspiration, perspectives, and creativity.

  5. Stuff you can do with #MCP servers:

    1) Create #monome #norns #audio #filters
    2) Create custom UIs for its OLED screen
    3) Dump the OLED contents directly into an #agent for it to fix the visual layouts

  6. Here's one of my first explorations with the Awake scripts (IIRC this was the karplus variant) of the Norns Shield. #monome #norns

  7. I've managed to solder the norns shield sold by Pusherman Productions so that I can start using this old Raspberry Pi 3 for making electronic music. It is running monome's open source firmware and community scripts

  8. Had another chance to do some ambient patching with Silhouette this weekend. Was quite happy where this ended up.

Crow is sequencing Just Friends, W/ (in synth mode), and two Mangroves which are being fed into Silhouette via Sarajewo for mixing and the addition of light and shadow.

  9. #genuary26 prompt: symmetry.
#genuary27 prompt: something interesting with no randomness or noise.

If there's gotta be no randomness, you need to introduce control. I made this cute discontinued device called the #Monome Arc work with #PyScript. This is usually driven by a UDP server, but turns out browsers can't use UDP, so I wrote a WebSocket bridge. Looks like it works 😎

  10. Here's this month's play talk play with Robbie Lyman:

    youtube.com/watch?v=IzefbczYT6

In this one we talk about negotiating shape and gesture, instrument design, and what it means to perform with computers ethically (or unethically!).

  11. Here's this month's play talk play with Brian Crabtree (of monome):

    youtube.com/watch?v=0kV2JcJdq1

In this one we talk where the edges of instrument and system design are and how we relate to the context in which we perform or realize our art.

  12. Here's this month's play talk play with Dan Derks:
    youtube.com/watch?v=YJng0QdjZi

In this one we talk about instrument making, acoustic artifacts of digital processes, and how to dispose of a body when someone has died (not really).

  13. Surprised how little #monome posting is on the fediverse. It's one of the oldest and most used #oshw devices there is. Would love to see that community more present here! I had the pleasure of meeting @eigenform at the MNT studio the other day and was reminded what an interesting project that Monome is.

  14. An interesting find! I got my hands on a Raspberry Pi 4S, which is the most powerful module in the CM3 format. It isn't available for retail customers but somehow a store in Denmark had 4 of them in stock 🤑

And today it arrived! Broadcom 2711 MCU with the C0 stepping (same as RPi 4B which can run at 1.8GHz) with 32 GB eMMC (Samsung KLMBG2JETD-B041) and 1 GB LPDDR4 (Samsung K4F8E3S4HD-MGCL).

Now to install it in my #Monome #Norns 😋

  15. I'm sure no one really cares but the drop off in #supercollider & #monome norns development is not because I've lost interest in either but because day job coding has been quite intense (deadlines etc) & I find there is only so much coding I can do in a day so capacity to code for my own projects is reduced currently - fortunately I've got my modular back up & running in the meantime .

  16. I’ve been really getting into microtonal stuff (there is a severe danger of me becoming some kind of zealot. 12tet is such a compromise!!). Currently playing with a scale based on averaged frequencies from speech.
Anyway wondering if I need a eurorack microtonal quantiser. Or I could make one using #monome crow BUT of course: disting to the rescue!!! :-) (algorithm K5)

  17. still down the LaMonte Young rabbit hole - currently learning a bit about serialism & listening to Webern.

The theoretical principle of serialism is the manipulation of a carefully chosen sequence of 12 tones (from the octave) via what are essentially mathematical operations. I don't really know serialist music well but I wonder if a #monome grid instrument that let you improvise those operations on top of a chosen row (& perhaps rhythmic sequence(s)) would be musically interesting?

  18. ha ok - my little #monome Norns instrument is finished. Originally a #supercollider standalone now a Norns standalone. This little clip was recorded directly on the Norns with the tape facility.
If you want a play with it - it will be on Lines when I've recorded a little overview & figured out the release mechanism

  19. good progress on my #monome norns project. Norns is really maturing into a nice platform to do stuff on.
TODO: Tuning the sound engine, adjusting curves to get nice transitions. Need to write a proper voice allocator that keeps track of released nodes too, so they can be culled even if they are in their release phase, adding loopers & a bit more UI.

Going to tackle version 2 of islands after this I think

(& then on to more experimental stuff)
