  1. Messing around with some #VCVRack today. I'll do a real recording when this patch is further along, but for now I'm pretty happy with how well I've done at making the Ensemble Oscillator sound like a grouchy pipe organ in an airplane hangar. #ModularSynth #Music #BackOnMyBullshit

  4. Trying #ProjectM again. Which basically is the good old #Winamp #MusicVisualizer.

Is anybody using this live on stage with #Linux?

There used to be a decent GUI frontend to it, but it went down some open source drain. I even had used that live and via screen capture, some minor snippets had ended up in a film that was shown in a movie theater. But that GUI has gone nowadays.

So I have #projectMSDL now, but I don't know how to access a preset directly. I could copy a selection to a different folder and then step through. There's nothing too practical… there's hundreds of presets, some are astounding, most are annoying. There isn't even a command line option to open one specific preset file only.

Since ProjectM is open source, there are many projects using it, such as #VLC, there even is a module for the #vcvRack #synthesizer, yet this also doesn't win a prize in preset selection and it can't show a full screen window.

  9. I've been obsessed with the #Buchla #248 #MARF and the incredible sequencing that it can do. There is an amazing #VCVRack interpretation of #SuzanneCiani's #BuchlaCookBook and I had a brain wave two days ago while staring at the ceiling in the hospital (I am home now).

What we have here is my first audio demo of my #AS248Sequencer. It's a bodged #MARF-Lite where I have movement, multiple play-heads (3 in this case) and have made my own versions of the "Ciani Sequences" from the Cook Book. There's complex oscillations and low-pass gates. All in #BitwigStudio. It is ridiculously fun to perform on and hours roll by and my mind wanders to the good places.

I can be a little loud at parts so mind your ears!

  14. There’s this amazing #TipTop #Buchla #Eurorack panel that has just come out. It’s the #248 #MARF. It’s ridiculously cool, powerful and expensive.

Now that I know I can make controls in #BitwigStudio I am looking forward to developing a #performative #ElectronicMusic setup that is based on #SuzanneCiani’s #BuchlaCookbook following the most excellent #Pyer #VCVRack emulation.

  19. It went well! Friday night on Thames:

My live improv set was on a boat as part of NAUS #2, an intimate live electronics night curated by Stephen Shiell as part of his residency on board. Two others on the bill amazed me: Tom Hirst playing his self-built synth modules very smoothly! and Mohammed Rowe with feedbacky textures and transients using Max!

I was the final one. A classic: Mid-set my GameBoy running LSDJ tracker ran out of battery! But I spontaneously switched to SameBoy LSDJ emulator alongside my Cardinal patch and it was OK to keep improvising. Some of the audience sat around on the floor to see things happen up close, which I liked. I definitely was not sending emails from the stage :D

A proper reflective writing with full sounds and credits is on its way on my new blog elifyalvac.com/blog

But for now, two mini excerpts merged in this clip: Cardinal and LSDJ.

Thank you @dreamer and @falktx - Cardinal live first time on a boat on the Thames worked out! And thanks again @mosgaard for recommendations!

film credits: my lovely partner jordan muscatello

  24. At least I found the time for a little #Rocket science today, before I now have to prepare for tonight's money making monkey business. 🤪

    I used a #sequencer in #vcvRack to control this #WaldorfRocket. The tiny #MIDI keyboard in the back plays #DecentSampler in #Carla on #UbuntuStudio #Linux.

The #piano is a #Schiedmayer from the 1940ties which I promised myself to play much more, it's such an incredibly nice instrument. (I sold my digital piano, and didn't continue using PianoTeq… forget about it.)

Eerie #Winter #ElectronicMusic ideas generated from #BitwigStudio and #VCVRack with the #Venjolin module. I've routed my to work with #Plaits, loads of #ChronoBlob delay and #Plateau reverb.

    Ps: I don’t own these

  35. There's a new #VCVRack paid module set from #Venom and there's this new #Benjolin module closely modelled after the #AfterLater module. I've made a nice rig in #BitwigStudio where I can perform it from my MIDI fader controller and using an FX Grid patch for signal processing of MIDI it is all very smooth and lovely to work with.

I also discovered that presently only the #VST2 plugin for #VCVRack works as expected from session to session (Clap and VST3 do some very weird and unwanted things).

So here is a 5 minute ramble into the void from this morning.

  46. this is probably my most 'organized' patch yet. forcing myself to get some discipline by labeling / separating various parts. does make it easier to work on.

this is Sana'a from the newest project i'm working on. this piece has been evolving since i first set down the foundation in September, '25. 2 other tracks were started in March of this year, the final in October '21. album is still a long way off, don't even have mixdowns started yet)
