  1. Here's my new step sequencer for Pd with multiple pages with independent number of steps/tempo/etc and microtonal support. This object is from the MERDA abstractions,as part of my ELSE library for Pure Data. #anginedepoitrine #modularsynth #puredata #microtonalmusic #computermusic

  3. Speaking Math Rock, I have been obsessively trying to understand how to use #FourierTransforms ever since I read some article that informed me that this is the sorcery by which a pedal like the Polytune, which gives you tunings of all your strings at once, works.

This is from the #PureData docs page, and is the clearest explanation I've read so far, if you're also curious about making your own DSPs.

Tip o the hat to @internetarchive for preserving this knowledge.

  4. It bloops.

One step further on my quest to create a generator for #hvcc compiled #puredata patches to run in #godot via gdextension.

  5. we are so excited to formally announce our second event, Computer Music 2! some new faces, some old faces, some good music to be played xx

3rd of April, 6pm BST on Twitch

  6. Two equivalent abstractions to convert a linear value in the range (0, 1) to an exponential range. #Csound code (user defined opcode) vs. #PureData diagram (subpatch). Csound is certainly quirky and a tiny bit arcane, but it took a tiny fraction of the time to create. #Pd

  7. Starting to swing from #PureData back to #Csound for a large project I'm working on. The #Pd patches get pretty wild pretty quick and while the visual interface is nice to see all the patch cables, it gets exponentially more difficult to wrangle things as the patches grow. I end up spending a lot of time arranging things visually with precision mouse clicks. Csound is plain text code so rearranging it can be done very fast with the keyboard + Vim style model editing.

  8. Yo Mastodon!

I’m Ctrl Freq - sound artist, circuit bender, instrument designer.

Creator of LSe, µ-LSe and numerous undocumented, half-finished projects :)

I also run DIY electronics workshops and travel around performing. Last but not least - producer of heavy and distorted broken electronic music (Breakcore, Tearout, Jungle, Dubstep)

  9. @amedee_de_murcia @tokinogake such a shame. I knew something like this would happen sooner or later and that Discord wouldn't stay the friendly free-to-use platform forever. Still a shame about all these cool communities there that I used for discovering music, production techniques etc.: glitch.cool, dismissyourself, luxcache (though this one wasn't very active anymore), the library, #puredata / #plugdata,...
Hope they gonna move on to something else.

  10. Working on this again. A diy wireless, small sensor for dance/movement. To trigger interactive compositions with movements. So much fun (even though for now it's only triggering one chord 😂) #plugdata #puredata #arduino

  11. These #puredata abstractions for melodic scales, chords, and tonal sequences in #algorithmic composition now have their own repo: github.com/devstermarts/PD-mel

  12. @prinlu depends on what you want to do... Also don't underestimate the possibility to have a more modular approach on Linux via #jackaudio (and/or #pipewire ).
I often use #Rosegarden together with #Ardour (syched via jack transport), have combined with #puredata, qmidiarp, etc. #Yoshimi synth of course.

    I prefer #Rosegarden as a sequencer/ composition tool, #ardour for audio #daw, #puredata for the more experimental/ DIY stuff...

You can get pretty (crazy) creative 😉

  13. PlugData is a concatenation of several related projects, and allows a user to include objects from any of these projects.

It can also compile to a plugin by means of an included project called Heavy.

But Heavy doesn't support all of the included objects. It doesn't even support all of vanilla PD. So if you want to use delay~, well, you can't.

So what's the advantage of writing your Heavy patch in an IDE that will allow you to build, prototype and test a bunch of stuff that will never compile? There's a way to build a patch in "Compile Mode" which will tell you if your objects won't work, but turning on that mode after you've built a patch is too late. It does not appear to generate a report.

tl;dr If you want flexibility in terms of compiled output type, use Faust
