  1. [en] Misconception: strength of an #egg when dropped

    Funny or not:

No, an egg is NOT strongest when dropped vertically.

"A horizontal egg, being more compliant, bends and absorbs energy over a greater distance — similar to how bending your knees during a fall softens the blow."

  2. Guest Contribution by #Mohamed #Hussien: "In #Defense of #Weak #Dualism"

This guest post is by Mohamed Hussien, who contacted me to see if I could publish his #essay "In Defense of Weak Dualism" on my site. It is true that I am not one of the outspoken "defenders of #dualism", whether weak or strong. On the contrary, I am primarily interested in #overcoming the 2500 years old #misconception in the #philosophy of #mind.

    The originaltext is in English.

  3. There's a #misconception about the #timespace speed limit, the speed of light. It seems that if you're determined to travel to another galaxy you won't live to see it. But the truth is that you can actually travel arbitrarily fast, if you only consider the on-board, local time. If you forget what you're leaving behind, you can go anywhere as fast as you go. The Lorentz transform will take care of everything. You can get to Andromeda in a day. You can get there in a minute. Just need to go faster. Lorentz contraction will take care of it. You can get there in a second. You can go arbitrarily fast! The outside observer will see you frozen in time when traveling.

  4. Koalas depend on bats

"Without the bats, the koalas wouldn't have the trees. So the bats are the ones that are fertilising those big eucalypts that koalas love."

"A lot of people overseas when they think of Australia, they think of koalas." In Australia "there's ...a lack of awareness about the role of bats in controlling insect populations, pollinating plants and spreading seeds, much like birds and bees do."

"Perceptions have consequences: The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) says more than half of the state's species are in decline, or their status is unknown, due to a lack of research."
