Went on a bat walk tonight in Darenth Country Park. Heard lots of bats on the special bat sensors and even spotted some too. Fascinating little creatures. We would usually see more but suspect they were waking up and heading straight to Bluewater for a drink of water. It was 32°c at 8pm

There's a bat in my wife's office building and no one with the building's management know what to do. I offered to get the bat and release it at dusk. Now I'm waiting to hear back on what they decide. I'd hate for someone to just kill it.

I have PPE to keep myself safe while doing it as well.

We've named our bats after the greatest Draculas ever. Lee, Lugosi, and Von Count.

Lee hovered by my head tonight. Moths seeking proximity to me as protection were shit out of luck. To watch a bat flapping, hovering less than 30 centimetres from your head is a privilege.

Storms moved through yesterday including a really windy bout around sunset. After a particularly strong gust, with trees swaying I saw a bat doing its best to fly after prey. Low light but managed to capture a couple slightly blurry shots of it zipping around.

We don’t have an outside light. Dad was big on having them when he was alive because it’s just something you did back in the day in the rural south.
A big light attached to the roof of the house or a barn.
in the late 70s when my brother and I were <10, We would throw little rocks up into the air for the bats to catch and discover were not prey.
You made your own entertainment back then.
Besides, mama was not letting us back in the house until dinner was done.
