    “Canadian athlete Kalie McCrystal has gone missing during preparations for a record attempt in the Alps.

    McCrystal, from #Squamish in #BC, was on a “reconnaissance/training session” in the run-up to her attempt at ascending and descending the 14,692 ft (4,478m) #Matterhorn on the Swiss-Italian border.
    The 38-year-old was last seen on Tuesday after she had reached the Matterhorn’s summit and was descending the Italian side of the mountain.”

    Day 5 (and last) was a short one. My friends need to drive back to the Netherlands, so it was only a hike down to Schwarzee, where we took the cable car to Zermatt.

    Before breakfast we were able to find some head lights on the Matterhorn, but as it was already quite bright, that did not last long. On our way down, I wanted to get a picture of the bivouac hut on the ridge. Only after zooming in I saw there were quite some climbers in that area. Did not see them at all with my bear eyes.

    Now it is time for some rest and getting ready for Saturday (6-day hike and last long one of the season).

    Day 3 started with the same blue skies of the first two. There is nothing better than stable weather in the mountains. We hiked the Pfulwe-pass that appeared to be closed due to rockfall (see mountains.social/@bergmeister/), so that was very unfortunate. Luckily nothing happened.

    On both sides of the pass we encountered multiple ibex. We were quiet, they were quiet, we seemed to respect each other.

    Highlight was of course coming over the pass and see the unbelievable mountain panorama: Monte Rosa, Breithorn, Klein Matterhorn, Matterhorn, Zinalhorn under blue skies.
